6 Years review

I bought mine in 2012. I'm back to buy another one for my son. Mine is still fine, and I use it daily.

I shave my face, neck, and head for over 20 years and I'm VERY picky about my blades and how sharp they should be in order to get the smooth CLEAN skin.

It looks like the negative comments here are by those who don't know how to use the rubber cleaner.

This is NOT a sharpener! It cleans the edge of the blades so the blades feel smooth and sharp from skin cells, soap and mainly water. You MUST dry the blades after using the cleaner. I keep mine in the shower and use it after shaving. After passing the blades against the direction of shaving five times with a drop of water, pressing on the shaver's handle, I blow air on the blades to make sure no water is between the blades.

A cartridge of blades lasts me more than two months!

I don't know what it is made of, but it looks like hard rubber. It is still smooth to the touch and I never moved the blades in the direction of shaving. Also, always raise the blades after traveling about three inches on the rubber surface, so to always start a new pass.

I have no relations with the vendor, nor this item was free. Considering I have mine for six years and I shave daily, I consider it an investment. Unfortunately, it is not on Amazon Prime and paying $5 for shipping is steep. But it is what it is and it is going to last.

... thing would sharpen to a point where it was better than the factory
by Radical D (5 out of 5 stars)

I used to use the Mach 3 razor and this thing would sharpen to a point where it was better than the factory. I would easily get a month and a half out of it for a medium beard. In fact the casing of the blade would be falling apart as I used it for longer. I lost track of my Pit for about a year and during this time I started using the Gillette Fusion (5 blades).Well due to the high cost of the Fusion blades. I bought another Pit. The sharpener works well, but I think it takes a little tweaking to make sure all blades get sharpened equally and more time sharpening the fusion blade. I just got a month out of a fusion blade. But I do believe this works the best for the Mach 3.

But it has worked well for me...

Razor pit

This has a hard plastic shell covered in rubber. The rubber has a lot of grip so you have to put something on the rubber before running the blade across it. I don't think it sharpens the blade but it does clean it and performs some honing. I was surprised to look at my razor after rinsing it in hot water for 15-30 seconds. Under a magnifier it looked bad. There was a lot of soap, hair, etc. Would not think it would be that bad. After running it across this pad it removed most of the junk. It does help keep it clean. Recommend for general cleaning.

I have started running my double edge razors over this rubber block. You can do it but not with the razor blade in the razor handle. I removed the blade from the handle and hold the razor blade in the middle and sweep it back and forth across the rubber block. I can quickly run this 20 times back and forth. Then rinse the blade and turn it around and do the same on the other size. I find that a DE razor blade lasts over a month doing this. The DE blades are flexible and easily sweep across the block. When the blade needs to be replaced it will not cut as well but surprisingly does not cause any nicks or cuts like a typical dull blade does. It just takes more passes to get all the facial hair cut. That's when I change the blade. I am surprised this works so well for DE blades.

A Must for Jets fans!

It actually works!

I was hesitant to buy this product, but I am glad I did. You will get a least 5-6 more shave per razor with this little tool. It's not a miracle worker, but if you feel like a razor is getting a little "Tuggy" you just give it a few swipes and the blade cuts much smoother.

At 15 bucks it can pay for itself in 3-4 months, then you can stop making Gillette and the Patriots as rich.

I dont have a thick beard so i can only state something that i noticed. I used to use a razor and change once a week. I can extend to 3 weeks with this product but i wouldn't recommend. At this price it pays for itself quickly. Not the best and dont expect it to be. Will help get a closer shave after a couple of uses and extend beyond what i used to do. This doesn't make it more comfortable or sharp but it helps. I use gilette fusion razors with 5 blades. Seems like it would be better with a less blade model but i am not changing my razors. Double the life for sure.

I can't say that I got my money back on the purchase but I have a sharp blade far more often than a
by Hedley Lamarr (5 out of 5 stars)

I bought this rubber block to use with my Gilette Mach 3. I was growing weary of constantly replacing expensive blades. My position today is based solely on my anecdotal experience with the unit but these are my experiences.

I would say that I get 2-3 times the use out of a blade if I consistently wipe it down after each usage. The blue line of soothing agent is usually my measure for when it's time to replace a blade. With this rubber block that blue line will be long gone before I decide to replace the blade.

I'm a shower shaver only. I keep this block next to my razor's base above my shower tile. When shave I'll shoot a little shaving cream on the block, then on my fingers and apply it to my face. I'll heat the razor under the running water and then shave. Afterwards I rinse it and then run it backwards on the black 4-5 times. I'll rinse it again and blow it dry from the back and then the front side before putting it back on the stand. I always blow it dry. My blades never get a chance to rust. I then rinse the block and put it back up on the tile. Doing this, my blades tend to last noticeable longer than without the rubber block.

Make no mistake, this rubber block isn't magic. It just cleans the crap off the blade that would otherwise be stuck there and cause pitting and corrosion on the blade. That's what makes it feel dull far sooner than it should. Is it worth $18 (today's price?) Maybe, maybe not. I paid $25 for it when I bought mine. I can't say that I got my money back on the purchase but I have a sharp blade far more often than a dull one.

Had my doubts but was wrong. Works!!

I have tried different gimmicky razor blade life extenders before and expected this to be another one. This device is simple and easy to use and works. I don't know if it will extend the blade life as long as told but It has extended my blade three months longer than I would normally keep it before I got rid of it. I only gave it 4 stars for I think it needs a compartment to store your blades on the back of the device as well.

Don't buy if you use Schick Quattro
by M. T. Jaegerman (2 out of 5 stars)
October 24, 2014

I had high hopes for this, as it's supposed to be such a great product. However, it is totally useless on Schick Quattro blades (women's, at least) due to their wires over the blades. I like those blades as they shave really nicely, and have at least 6 left to use up before I decide if I want to get a new razor handle and cartridge just to use the RazorPit. I wish I had returned it right away. And that i had read a mention of incompatibility in product listing or the other many many reviews I read.

Appears worth the cost so far
by Willms (5 out of 5 stars)
October 5, 2015

I finally decided to purchase this whent he price had temporarily fell below $16. So far I am pleased with the purchase. I have a moderate amount of facial hair. I typically shave 5 times per week (usually I don't over the weekend), although sometimes I may skip a work day and only shave 4. I am currently using the Proglide Fusion system. Normally, I would switch razors after about 2 or 3 weeks. After the 3rd week, I definitely would notice a deterioriation in quality and a less comfortable shave. I received the razor pit about 2 months ago, and currently am on my 8th week with the same razor. The current comfort of the shave is still better than what it previously would have been after 2 weeks. Assuming a $3/blade cost, my previous annual blade expense would have been approximately $50. If the blades can now last me 8-9 weeks as opposed to 2-3, my blade cost now would $18/year. That would equate to a $32 saving per year, so in that sense the cost has been well worth it. Others have mentioned much cheaper solutions (towel, arm, old piece of denim). I had previously tried those and did not have good results, probbly largely because I would forget to do it, or because it was a little less convenient to do so. This also serves as a nice, sturdy holder for my razor (which I keep in the shower), and since I am putting the razor back into it, I am more likely to remember to use it.

It Works!
by Amazon Customer (5 out of 5 stars)

Honestly, I didn't expect this to work. But to my surprise, it brought the ols, dull razor that I've used far too long back to life. I was shocked.

It's probably not actually worth the price if you're looking at only the hard rubber that it appears to be made of. But in terms of its overall value, it's a great deal. Now my expensive razors will last much, much longer. I have no doubt that it will pay for itself. Highly recommended.
