worst croquet set ever...

This particular set was rated pretty well but I fail to find the reason why. I purchased it for use at my wedding, just something fun for our guests to do. When i went to put the set away after no one had even used it, two of the six mallet handles snapped/sheared off. I have played croquet for well over 20 years and have beaten up a few sets bad, but ive never seen a poor quality set like this one. Maybe you're not supposed to take the mallets apart, but if that's the case, make the carrying case large enough to store them assembled. If i could rate it 0 stars, i would. The balls are made of plastic. Inferior quality wood for the mallets and endposts. Even the paint job on the mallets and endposts was shoddy. Wish I had purchased one of the other sets that looked better, were more expensive (hopefully meaning intended for more than one use).

These are pretty cheaply made. The wood of the mallet head where you screw the mallet handle on is fragile and it isn't easy to screw the mallet handle on. You have to be very delicate otherwise the wood chips and the mallet becomes unusable. We have to be very careful when playing a game because the mallets are easy to break. It really takes the fun out of the game when you have to find a balance between hitting the ball and not breaking the mallet. Very disappointed....

I purchased this as I wanted Croquet. The quality of the balls is pretty bad (already have cracks and haven't even used yet). Also I'm not sure how well the wood will hold up. Having said that I got these at a price I could not refuse. also the bag is not bad quality. Inside the bag is cardboard box with items in it. If you are careful opening box (I used a knife and cut 3 out of 4 sides, you can maintain shape in the bag. Otherwise, when you remove the cardboard box and place parts in blue bag there will be nothing to hold shape. Overall less than average but again get this if the price is low as the money spent will be worth it (as long as it does not break on first use).

Very well packaged, clear instructions, six mallets, six different colored balls, and everything else necessary for a game of croquet. Arrives packaged in a nice carry case. Unfortunately, once the mallets are assembled, they will not all fit in the case, which is why I have not rated it five stars.

Everything worked just fine. The mallets were solid but a tad short. The balls were solid. The wickets were very small, almost nursery school sized. Still, the kit is convenient and it stores nicely. Check out some sets in person before you buy - I wish I had. This is going in the next garage sale.

The only thing that's happened so far is the rubber ends have come off of one of the rackets, which I believe I can just glue to keep it on better. Otherwise this is a sturdy, well-made set. I wish I didn't have to take apart the rackets to put it away in the case every time, but at least it has a case. So far my kids are enjoying it and I have nostalgia from my childhood!

It was fun to play, the instructions were cool. But the balls were starting to crack at their seams right out of the box. They haven't gotten any worse and they still work. So good enough.

I gave this to a friend's four grandchildren for Christmas. The first time they played with their grandparents they had a blast. Even though they had never played before, they picked up on how to play really fast. When they opened it (together) one of them thought it was polo and wanted to know where the horse was! So funny.

OK, submitted PACKAGING review...this one is for the set...packaging is a little strange; the carrying case comes with the cardboard box containing the set inside it, which was a little hard to get out of the case. The case, as others have mentioned, cannot be used to transport the set of six mallets/balls along with the croquet course setup. That is unless you disassemble the mallets, exposing the set to loss, breakage, mismatched heads, etc....there seems to be also a disconnect between croquet set manufactures and the public need for croquet sets. You can buy "cheap" sets (like this one) or you can buy "outlandish" sets ($500 and up)...not exactly sure what might be the difference in the quality ($500 set is 10 times better than the $50 set???); but there seems to be a huge gap in the availability of mid-priced middle-quality sets. This set ($42) was adequate for the players; we made it through the planned activity with nothing broken; would I buy it again? I plan on using the set as firewood (or substitute horseshoe poles) in the future. The pegs and mallets are wooden with plastic faces; not the most aesthetic construction; the balls are plastic coated something, with flash all the way around where they were molded/injected...I have been instructed to repair (if possible) my older set... so these will end up in the kindle (not book-reading type) pile...not wanting to pay $500 for a better (???) set...

One croquet mallet head is the wrong color--would like to replace it?

Everything about this set is great -- nice size, quality fine, price was right. Shipping was fast! We enjoyed using this set on the Fourth of July. However, two of the mallet heads are yellow. We are missing the red mallet head. As you can see in the photo, we need a new mallet head that is red to match the red-striped handle. I'd appreciate help from the manufacturer in sending a red mallet head to replace the wrong colored mallet head. I'd gladly change the review to 5 stars when this problem is corrected!
