Day of the Dead Corkscrew

Product Description

This corkscrew is inspired by the Day of the Dead holiday in Mexico. Every year Mexicans celebrate the lives of loved ones who are no longer with us. They do so with offerings of food and drink. Sugar Skulls are part of this tradition and is the imagery behind of the Day of the Dead Corkscrew. The Day of the Dead corkscrew was designed by Stephanie Suarez as part of the Mexico Design Challenge -InchDesarrollando Talento Mexicano-Inch (Developing Mexican Talent). A program organized by Kikkerland, in collaboration with Ariel Rojo, Gava Design, and the UNAM (Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico). Kikkerland is very proud to part of this program.

Visually, this is a cute item. Unfortunately, as a working kitchen utensil, it is basically useless. The craftsmanship on this item is very poor and so it does not work as an actual corkscrew. No matter how you twist the top, it will not actually push the screw into the cork. I tried this on a few different bottles of wind, some with traditional wooden corks and some with corks from artificial materials and it did not work on any of them. If you are purchasing it as a seasonal decoration, then you should be very happy with it. If you are purchasing it in the hopes of using it on a regular basis to remove the corks from wine bottles, I would highly recommend you purchase another item.

When we saw the design that was it. SOLD! For someone who loves skulls this was a perfect present. Ordered online (wait till it gets to you in the middle of the Pacific Ocean). Night to celebrate, get that fancy wine. Open the box where the wine opener is sitting... excitement. One minute later tears... it was all lies. The corkscrew BROKE!!! The first time we are using it and that was it. DEAD. Leatherman is out trying to get the broke screw from the cork. Reach out to the 0.60 cent wine opener to get the job done. Poor material for sure and very disappointing after you pay 20USD for a nice wine opener plus shipping and handling. Do Not recommend.

I got this because it was really cool. However, on the very first bottle of wine that I tried to open the screw part just broke off. This is a very flimsy item and it will not last. It looks really cool but just does not work. Would not waste my money on this item. Avoid at all costs.

This corkscrew is horrible. It only works for ONE USE. It the actual corkscrew part of it comes out as soon as you try to remove the cork. AWFUL. So excited to give to my friend and it broke AS SOON AS WE USED IT. DO NOT BUY.

If I could give this zero stars I would... first time I used at a dinner party and while screwing into the cork it seemed a little rough... created metal shavings that ruined a bottle of very expensive wine... the product is extremely dangerous those metal shavings had I not caught this could have made someone very sick that is just as bad as swallowing glass... this company should send me a check for that 100.00 bottle of wine it ruined!!'

Adorable little corkscrew! A family member adores the Day of the Dead theme and this was a creative new addition to her growing collection. The corscrew is functional and adorable. She was thrilled with the gift and has received many compliments. Pair it with a fun wine (there are so many good ones!) and it is a perfect gift!

3 stars for the clever design (five for the appearance, which I love, less two for the fact that the design made it rather difficult to actually get the cork fully out of the bottle), but overall one star for the fact that it lasted long enough to open maybe a half-dozen bottles before the corkscrew broke. Perhaps I had a bad one, but I cannot recommend this product based on my experience.
