I used this deep fryer every day. I used it to cook my dinner every night. Some days I also used it to cook my lunch. I changed the oil once a week. After two months it would no longer heat the oil. I can't cook food in room temperature oil. At that point I went to a local store and purchased a Farberware 4L deep fryer, model 201639 (amazon doesn't allow retailer names in comments but think of a big yellow asterisk).

Easy to use, perfect results!

Prior to this purchase, I hadn't used a deep fryer in about 30 years. I wanted to make fish and chips, clam cakes and dough boys (fried dough) for my family and then for a summer party later on. Though I was a bit apprehensive, I purchased two units for this purpose. Well, I found the Secura 4.2L/17 Cup, 1700-Watt Stainless Steal Deep Fryer to be an excellent product. It was easy to use, easy to clean, and the cooking results were perfect every time! I am really happy to post this review. What I found to be the best characteristics are as follows: 1) The Baskets - I can fry two different foods in smaller quantities using the two small baskets or make a larger quantity of fries, etc in the single basket. Being able to wash the stainless steal baskets in the top of the dishwasher makes them easy to clean too. 2) Cover -The filter in the top of the cover, really works to control the smell of frying. The large handle makes the cover easy to remove and replace as needed. 3) Controls - Easy to see, easy to set, and having to use the timer provides some security that you won't leave the unit on accidentally. 4) Though other fryers have built in filtering/draining systems, I honestly found that pouring the used oil back in the bottle simple to do. The part that holds the oil is light weight and lifts off the unit easily. I then pour the oil through a strainer over a funnel back into the bottle. It's a snap! 5) RESULTS - every thing I have made in these fryers has cooked perfectly.
I really love this fryer and highly recommend it.

We used this item one time and it did indeed work. However, we went to use it a second time and it would not turn on. I followed all of the troubleshooting that the manual recommends. The reset button got jammed. I wrote the company ( which says they will respond within 48 hours). Within the email I asked for more help with the product and/or a credit for the product with not an email back. (It's been more than a week) So ultimately, if you would like to spend your hard earned money on something that only works once go ahead, dont expect any customer service or a functional product from this company!

I use to have a restaurant and did not feel that a small home fryer would please me. I was wrong. This is a great unit. It is easy to clean, has a charcoal filter to help reduce odor and the thermostat is very accurate. I was very surprised when I turned the dial to 365 degrees, when the light went out I checked the oil with a thermometer and the temperature was perfect. I fried some red snapper and hush puppies today and it was perfect. It was so much easier than heating oil in a pot and trying to keep it at the proper temperature.

I was a little concerned about ordering because I had read in other reviews about people cutting their hand on this unit. If that was a problem it seems that it is corrected now. I went all over this unit as soon as I opened it looking for a sharp edge and one does not exist. I have never heard of this brand before, and that bothered me, but this fryer is better than any other I have seen. Having the three baskets is nice and it is very easy to remove the handles and put the baskets and handles in the dishwasher. I highly recommend this one.

i have own this deep fryer for about a month now and i am very happy with it. Initially i was intimidated by it but it is so easy to use. i go out to brunch/lunch less now that i can make my own french fries and they come out awesome. Easy to store with the oil in it. The one thing that could use improvement is that the power cord does not firmly go into the back. Although i havent had any issues of it unplugging during use, i would feel more comfortable if this snapped on a bit more securely. does not affect the functioning of the unit however. i use this on a wooden block on my stovetop so that i can use the vent fan above which i would highly recommend. first time i made this on my island with no vent and it smelled a bit. easy to clean up, all around a great purchase.

I DIDN'T RECEIVE ANYTHING FOR MY REVIEW. This is a awesome fryer and an even better company that stands behind what they sell. It's just the right size to fit on the counter and works perfectly for so many things I have always wanted to make. Deep fried Oreo's, donut holes, deep fried Mac and cheese balls, just to name a few. Everything comes out perfect. I definitely have recommended this to my friends and I hope this review helps you decide.

I bought this because it held a lot of oil. It comes with 1 large basket and 2 smaller baskets. Would like to note that the filter is mainly to filter the smell of the oil (I find it useless). It's not bad for a fryer, but we thought it was okay for the price. The picture is the fryer filled with the oil between the MAX and MIN line.

Pros:
- Holds a lot of oil
- Heats pretty fast/reasonable time.
- Top prevent splatters
- Basket holder (if you end up using them)/ 3 different baskets

Cons:
-Timer has to be on in order for the fryer to be turned on (I normally set it at 60 min to keep it on). Would have been better if they had an on/off button.
- Baskets don't work well if you make your own batter. We found that the frying baskets tend to make our batter stick to it, leaving spots/holes in our fried food. We don't really use the baskets unless we want to drain the oil from our food, once it's cooked. Would also like to note that the oil at the MAX line does not cover the food in the basket that well. We had the oil filled to the MAX line, and with a chicken drumstick in the basket, we had to turn the drumstick in order for it to cook everything (we ended up cooking the drumsticks with out the basket, and this allowed us to cook the whole drumstick without turning it).
-Short power cord.

This deep fryer is 100 degrees off! Cheap and useless.

This is only the third time using this deep fryer, and it's already failing. Today I was frying some steak fries, and they just wouldn't brown. The temperature knob was turned all the way up to 375 and the indicator light indicated that the oil was at 375. But the fries were just kind of bubbling and nothing was happening. So, I got my deep fryer thermometer, and sure enough, the oil was only at 250 degrees!!! Very disappointing. It's past the return period, so I can't even return it. Might just throw it in the trash.

I did a lot of research on deep fryers and found this to be the best one. It is a good size but not too large that it takes your kitchen over. The different size baskets is perfect for parties or deep frying different items. I highly recommend this product when choosing between the other comparable options. The stainless steel has not rusted and everything is still in good condition 5 months later.
