This is a gorgeous necklace and I absolutely adore it. The batteries will die once left inserted after awhile, so I just turned them the wrong way in the light to stay until I want it to be lit, when I turn it around again. The chain is short, but I prefer that anyway. The clasp doesn't stay well but I'm sure it could be bent slightly to fix that. The light has a very very slow blink like a firefly, and is a nice fiery red color. I definitely recommend this product

OK - Good thing the price is pretty low

I got this the other day and, well, it's "OK". The size is good. It's what you would expect. But, there are three things that take away from the value of the product in my experience:
1) It came with batteries in it, and an extra set. The batteries in it were dead. Which brings me to point #2
2) There is no on/off switch. You literally have to remove the batteries in order to turn it on or off.
3) The chain is too small for anyone but a child.

Otherwise, it does look good and it does appear to have a glow that fades on and off. I figure it's good for 1 night per set of batteries and would work as a costume item.

I'm not returning it. Because it was pretty low priced, it's kinda "OK - but you get what you pay for".

Beautiful craftsmanship and very nice quality

Beautiful craftsmanship and very nice quality. Bright enough to be noticeable without being distracting. Batteries are supposed to last for around 15 hours (only worn it for about 2 hours so far and still going strong) and comes with an extra set which is very nice. The chain is thick enough that shouldn't break easily and the clasp feels very secure. The fade on/off light is an interesting touch. Excellent final touch for my steam punk costume, but am planning on wearing this at other times as well!

Cute but Cheaply Made

Cute but kind of cheaply made. I bought a second one for my daughter as the first on broke which was quite possibly her fault sort of. The light mechanism is very small and cheap and also what the batteries are inserted into. I think she put a new set of batteries in backwards and I believe thats how the 1st one broke. The price was OK for what its. I give $9.99 for it. It's not worth anymore than that. It came with batteries already installed that were dead but it also came with a packaged set extra batteries that did work. There is no on/off switch so the batteries must be removed to turn it off. It's a cute fun novelty item but not worth more than the $9.99 I paid.

Wonderful trinket, although latch could use tightening

Wonderful little trinket. I was worried when I originally got the piece that the light had burnt out or just had very little glow, since when I pulled the slip away from the batteries there was just a tiny flicker of light before it died out. After inserting the new batteries they provided, I was pleased that the little fire glowed brightly! I don't know why they sent batteries already in the light if those batteries were just dead.

One other thing to note, wearing this as a necklace presented some difficulties. The the latch that holds the two orbs together and the light inside is fairly loose, so bouncing around on the chest seemed to cause it to open and I found myself double checking and catch falling lights. Tying the trinket to my skirt did not seem to cause half as much trouble - in fact having it hang straight led to no problems. The latch could be and will be easily fixed, but I didn't have time.

Overall it was a cool tiny item and I recommend it to someone whose into steampunk.

Very cool product--Disappointed in the color

The color in the photo is very yellow--like natural candle-light. That's what I was hoping for, but the color given off by my nifty new necklace is very red. Otherwise, the product is true to description, and it's pretty fricken cool. I wish the seller would mark the color of each piece, though. If I'd known this one would be red, I would have ordered a blue one instead.

First off, I guess I was lucky with mine. I see quite a few reviews claiming that theirs stopped working after a very short time, but with the new set of batteries mine came with, I left it on just to see how long it would go; it did fade noticeably before a full day was up, but it was over a week before it completely stopped!

Secondly, about the light's color. I've seen understandable disappointment about the color being more of a reddish orange than the flame-like color it appears to be in the picture, and I was disappointed about that myself, though the orange grew on me. It sort of looked like a little glowing ember. That's just my personal taste, though.

A design flaw that gets a bit annoying is that the LED only faces one way, while the other side is blocked, and it will move around almost freely inside. If it happens to fall the wrong way, you can't see the glow at all, and sometimes have to open the pendant to move it back into place. Also, be aware that there isn't any kind of off-switch; when you want it off, you need to remove the batteries altogether.

The biggest let-down to me, and the reason I gave three stars instead of four, was the price. Considering everything working against it, this isn't worth $30. Maybe $20 at the most, but even that's stretching it a bit.

It's a nice size that's visible without being a "chunky" jewelry style, although I wouldn't have been unhappy with the charm being bigger, since I like chunky.

It's not totally clear from the product description that the light flashes. You can't make it stay on continuously as far as I can tell, but it's a nice gradual flash, not strobing.

There's no switch on it, so it's not possible to turn it on and off; once you remove the plastic tab, it's on until the batteries run out. Unless you remove them, which I was afraid to do. Looking at the little fixture, I feared I'd break it. If I ever want to use it again I will have to risk it to change the batteries, obviously.

Anyway, aside from the slight inconvenience of switch and battery changes, it is a neat little item.

The necklace is pretty. But it does burn out fast. My daughter liked it anyway. She liked the look of it even when it's not lit up. If you intend to keep it lit, I suggest buying a large amount of the little button batteries to keep on hand. They can be replaced and we did, but they burn out just as fast. Based on the other reviews, I knew that it would probably be like that. But I liked the look of it anyway, and if she wants, she can take out the light and keep some little trinket in there. Just something small would fit.

Small and dinky

First of all, AMAZON was awesome as usually in handling my return. But I would recommend not to buy this item in the first place. Or perhaps the seller should make following changes: 1) make the charm larger size, it looks too small at half an inch 2) the light was way to cheap. It consisted of 2 batteries (which I received dead) firmly held together by a piece of electrodes with flicker. Each time you would want to turn this thing on or off, you'd have to open the pendant, and fiddle with those tiny batteries. The light wasn't bright at all. I think they should make the pendant bigger and have the light no worse than one of those cheap led candles that have on and off button. At $30 it should not be designed like this. The only good thing about the necklace for me was the intricate appearance - that I appreciated. But I couldn't give it as a gift, it was too cheap looking to turn it on and off.
