DeWalt 20V battery pack varieties, capacities and runtimes:

Learn from my mistake. Not all batteries are created equal. I needed the DeWalt 20V cordless circular saw and the tool-only option was so much cheaper than the tool with 1 battery and charger, that I was almost able to buy a 20V drill, charger and 2 batteries with the savings, so that's what I did. While shopping for the new 20V drill, I had vaguely noticed slight differences in the sizes and colors of the batteries that came with them and I also noticed large disparity in the prices of various 20V drills. I purchased the cheapest one (it was mostly for the batteries after all) and, in general, thought that both the saw and the drill performed with excellence; however, on jobs where I was using only the drill, I noticed I could go all day on 1 battery, but on days where I needed the saw, I noticed the second battery was dead long before the first one had a chance to re-charge. That is when I started to take notice of the different sizes and colors of the various DeWalt 20V battery packs out there. It wasn't easy to find hard numbers to compare one to another, but I did manage to find what I was looking for by cobbling together information from multiple websites. Here is what I found:

As you can see from the table, the compact eXtreme Runtime battery gives you 33% more runtime than the compact, the standard 20V gives you 100% more runtime than the compact and the XR premium gives you 266% more runtime than the compact. Purchasing this 2 pack of XR premium nearly tripled my runtime from 3Ah total (2 x 1.5) to 11Ah total (2 x 1.5 + 2 x 4) for both tools. My crew is now capable of running both tools all day without re-charging, but I didn't need the drill and the batteries that came with it weren't getting the job done with the saw. I should have purchased this discounted 2-pack of XR Premium batteries instead of the drill and pocketed some savings.

Price:

All 4 battery varieties are available in 1 and 2-packs. Prices vary and sales happen, so things may change, but at the time of my purchase, the DCB204 2-pack was absolutely the best value for Ah/$ and enabled me to increase the most runtime for the fewest dollars by far and away over the smaller batteries or the XR premium 1-pack.

Size and weight:

The tools and the batteries have performed flawlessly thus far and just work all day without recharging. The only trade offs I have noticed with the DCB204 XR premium batteries is that they are much more suited for the saw than the drill. They are more than twice as heavy as the compact batteries and, for those of you who are familiar with the DeWalt line of 18V batteries, they are only slightly smaller and lighter than those and add considerable heft and imbalance to the drill. The extra weight is only felt when carrying the saw, but not while running it. As a result, we have developed a workaround of using the XR premium batteries on the saw and the compact ones on the drill and that enables both tools to run all day. Lesson learned, just because the batteries are interchangeable, doesn't mean they will accomplish what you set out to do with them. Get the big batteries for your big tools!

I have DeWalt tools pretty much exclusively so I can share batteries, etc. I like the brand and have had good performance with the tools. My beef with this order is I was in Lowe's and saw the same item for $50 less. I'm not returning because they worked as promised. I am simply letting others know that there may be a cheaper alternative.

I left my other batteries in Panama and needed these in the States, pronto. I didn't have time to shop around. Maybe you do. Nothing wrong with product, except the price. Good luck citizens.

Should bought these the first time rather than the knock-offs that only lasted one recharging cycle. These last a long time, recharge quickly and have been the mainstay of my batteries. I would definitely buy the Dewalt batteries and avoid the mimics.

Not for hot or cold weather

I have a lot of Dewalt 18 volt Nicads. I switched to Dewalt's lithium system to get the new motors. The new battery system has some real issues for people who work in hot or cold climates. I was doing a large demolition in a remote location with no heated buildings. The temperature was around 20 degrees. I was unable to recharge the lithium batteries. Luckily I had the 18 volt Nicad batteries and tools. They would recharge sitting right next to the lithium batteries that wouldn't charge.. Real world test.

Batterys last 13 months

These batteries are good for drills, but lose power quick while used is saws and grinders. And when they get low, they quit. No warning, just nothing. They also lose power way quicker when it is below 40 degrees. And both my batteries that I bought last xmas 2017, died a few days over a year on the same day. I am going to stick with the 18 volt nicad batteries because they do better with saws and grinders plus double the life of the lithium battery.

Long lasting, great batteries. I love all my Dewalt tools. I flip houses. They never give me a lick of trouble, they're durable and lightweight and fit my hand. I order the belt clip and bit clip for all my drills so I can put the drill and a slotted bit on my belt when I'm up a ladder or in a crawlspace. The light on my drills is great in close quarters. I have all the tools: fan, drills, impact drills, radio, sawzall, close quarter Sawzall, circular saw, grinder, offset drill for drilling wiring holes in framing. They're all indispensable to me. Got these batteries for long days when I need a bucket o batteries to get thru a work day. I consider them an excellent investment in convenience and dependability.

No better option is reasonable priced

This is the best option available for 20V tools. Used in my bit gun and 3 1/2" screws went in 20 times faster than 2Ah battery does. These should be standard for all tools as minimum Ah!!! Reciprocating saw actually cuts through 4x4s & trees without changing battery. Prolongs battery life for nail guns, drills & oscillating tool also. Getting a 2 pack for under $100 makes it a must have. The only thing to improve it by is adding a fast charger for a good price!

Great Batteries

Got these batteries at a good price and have been using them to help build quite a lot around the house. All of the 20v products have a pretty good battery life but these are a pretty good step up from the standard 20v battery last much longer. I was able to spend all day framing and building 15-foot long storage shelves for the garage and I still had battery left to fix some fence posts and hang a tv with work time to spare. These are great for home use and I can't imagine having much use for any larger battery during home use. Certainly when it comes to industrial the larger sizes would come in handy but as long as you are using these for smaller handheld tools these would even be fine for industrial or professional use as well.

both batteries were received were from different country origins.

not blister packed as usual.

they had less run time than older dewalt batteries.

after a few weeks one battery was smoking hot.

other battery charges. but has very short life.

kings bargain will not replace or refund
**this is our worst and only issue with deawlt tools
**seller will not exchange or refund, less than 2 months old.
**we threw one out, totally dead
**the other is only good for the flashlight.

I bought these for my 20v Dewalt Oscillation tool and they make a lot of difference. The 1.5 ah battery that came with the tool just wasn't enough battery, so I use it with my 20v impact and drill. I just recently bought a 20v Dewalt circular saw. It hasn't arrived yet, but I know that it will really need the bigger batteries. So far I'm very happy with the 20v Dewalt line. I don't use these tools on a day to day basis, but when I do I need tools that perform and batteries that will last during a very long day.
