Solid, sturdy construction.

The actual hardware is pretty cool and solid. I think they did a good job on the guitar.

I primarily want to work on my scales and the software, or an available app, isn't ready at this writing to perpetually keep the notes lit so you can go over them however you'd like. You can however download the individual scales for free from the gtar app and play them with a tempo, one note at a time. I gave this 5 stars purely on the gtar build itself.

Have you ever dreamed to play guitar but was afraid to try, gtari is your best option.

I am not an expert reviewer but Believe me, when it is about learning to play a guitar. I have tried EVERYTHING.

I am the kind of guy who always dreamed to play a guitar. Making that amazing sounds like yelling to the sky. But ended up realizing it is more difficult than I ever expected.

First I signed in for some lessons, so I got an acoustic guitar because the teacher said it was the best way to learn to play. I hated been carrying around that big acoustic guitar, hated the size, hurted my hands.

Used it to go for lessons. Ended up leaving it. Those lessons that only took time and money and where terribly boring. Decided to learn by myself or with internet lessons.

Then I got an electric guitar, you have to carry the cables, buy an amplifier. If you want to do cool sounds with it you have to buy the pedals. Ended up spending a lot of money and yet was unable to play the guitar. I was totally demotivated.

Then I got that cable iRing to connect my guitar to the iphone or ipad. It was fun for a time but the app is not as fun as the gtar.

Then I got that video game for the PS3/Xbox called Rocksmith. I is fun but you need to be connected to your console and to get the best results you need a very complicated sound connection.

So now I got my gTar. Let me tell you some things about it:

Forget about carrying that heavy acoustic guitar around. Forget about spending a lot of money on pedals and amplifiers and prepare to have a lot of fun. You can carry it around anywhere, even if you are not an expert you can play a song like a pro and sing along with your friends (then your friends can play and you can sing). Amazing for parties.

Then if you want to get a bit more serious. The gtar can help you learn some chords and you can even connect it to a real amp and start your own band.

The only reason why I dont give a perfect score is because the following reasons that will be very easy to fix from incident:
1.- The possibility to play the gtar without internet connection.
2.- A more dedicated app for learning. With exercises to improve finger speed, strength, strum etc.
3.- The app has great learning tools for chords and scales, but you need to have previous knowledge of the chromatic scale and other stuff. It will be nicer to have some lesson to very begginer to help them become pros.
4.- Tutorials to understand how to play the songs (ej When to play an open string), but more important. Not only point out the frets and string but to explain the position (chord) even for single string playing. That way you can learn more.
5.- In app support for people that want to use their gtar in other stuff (Rocksmith, Garageband or other software).
6.- support for new or other models of mobile devices.

If incident takes care of this they will have the most amazing and perfect guitar EVER...

In conclusion: Don't get me wrong, guitar lesson, iring, rocksmith are great thing. Every one have goods and bads. It up to you to decide whats best for you.

Yet with the gtar I believe you have a lot of advantages and I promise you will have a LOT OF FUN.

Happy gTar Owner

I bought a gTar mostly because I was curious about how it works. I have almost no music ability and I was concerned that I wouldn't be able to figure out how to make it work. Overall, it was really fun playing the gTar. It made me appreciate how hard it is to become a good musician. I really liked the way that the app walked me through the basics and gave me some exposure to the basics of how a guitar works. I've enjoyed playing with the gTar and I think the iPhone integration is really solid.

have not bought

Have not purchased this, I was thinking about buying one for my daughter as a supplement to her guitar lessons.

This because it's teaching a plethora of tab libraries, I am not sure what the others are talking about when they say "processor power" most midi synths and keyboards don't use near what's available in your phone.

That being said, I wouldn't make the purchase to start a band, I would as a teaching insturment and a way to keep adults and kids working at playing.

Again I haven't purchased it, once the light dock becomes available I will.

I'll give it three stars just for concept, would do four if it had android capability too.

I bought this over kickstarter and it totally exceeded my expectations. The gtar has helped improve my guitar skills and as the team at incident continues to improve the song library as well as apps, the functionality is endless.

Its full midi output which means works with many different apps to not only learn but also create music and share with the world. got one for my god daughter and shes having a blast playing as well.

Childrens toy

A MIDI guitar that lights up is cool in theory and that's why I bought one. It has a lot of great selling points but this is a terrible instrument. Some times 2 notes come out when you only play one, some times notes are slightly delayed. It's flashy and cool looking but if you are serious about learning the guitar, get an acoustic and take some guitar lessons. That's the best way. I would only recommed this product for kids as a toy, a very over priced toy. When you get it you will realize that's exactly what it is.

Pulled out our unused gtar and tried it out with the latest version of the app (with integrated store).

And yes this was exactly what I was expecting for my money. Great work Incident!

So overall the fender style guitar feels very solid and it's easy to learn guitar on the move.

As a beginner it's really nice to not have to tune the guitar, just grab it and play for 20min without any friction.

Got this initially through Kickstarter so my opinion might be out-dated.

But bought this guitar as a present to my fiancé and it has never been really useful. I can see that it might be cool for people with tons of equipment etc at home and that knows how to play. But I got it for the "portable learning guitar experience" which it isn't since there are hardly any songs at all for it.

I seen that some kind of store is coming... so perhaps it might get better. But without proper song library this is paper weight for us (it would have been way cheaper buying a normal guitar for the extra guitar learning applications we had to buy).

Nice idea. GTar app is far too basic
by Me (3 out of 5 stars)
March 1, 2015

Nice idea. The app is far too basic and really lacking teaching. I really wanted to like this. Guitar is well made. However it relies on an app that is very limited The songs that come with the app are old ( like Yankee doodle dandie). You can buy more modern ones at $99 a piece. Very limited learning. I was surprised such an expensive learning guitar of quality was let down on such a major part. This is a shame really as if GTar decided to make a great app that teaches this could go much further as the guitar hardware is great. I sent mine back very disappointed. Maybe one day they will create a great app and it will be worth buying.

It's Fun!

I am pleased with the results this midi guitar has provided me. I picked up a song I once knew how to play within a few hours and didn't feel compelled to rely visually on the fret after some practice. The fret board with lighted guidance really is fun to use. I feel like I can connect with my interest in playing music with using the Gtar. In fact, it has reminded me of how much I enjoyed playing music and have since reconnected with my violin! Hooray :)

this entire concept is silly

As a pure MIDI guitar, this might be useful IF it were not reliant on an iphone for MIDI processing. MIDI has to be hardware based to avoid latency, and the CPU and I/O on an iphone are nowhere close to powerful enough to accomplish this. Also, a MIDI guitar still ought to feature standard pickups in addition to MIDI out. Even a powerful laptop (even a Mac) will have latency issues with MIDI, so this thing is a joke and quite expensive when you factor in the cost of an iphone. This unit lacks a MIDI out port! That is just ridiculous. With a MIDI out at least something professional _might_ have been accomplished here. Finally, no one is going to learn anything relevant about the fretboard by following LEDs. Not looking at your fretboard is one of the most primary skills of serious guitar craft.
