NOT READY FOR PRIME TIME...Do yourself a favor and stay away from this...
by Sachin (2 out of 5 stars)
December 4, 2014

First off, I really want to love this watch, I had been waiting for a device like this for several years.

The feature set is impressive and I love the ability to make/receive calls, texts and notifications on it. I also love the ability to change the watch face and it's a great conversation piece.

Where Samsung goes really sideways with this with the charging apparatus.
1) Why didn't Samsung just put the micro USB connector right on the watch? Instead they used a charging cradle that has to snap on to the back of the watch. Another device I have to carry around with me that can easily be lost. Not the biggest gripe but leaves me wondering.
2) They used tiny little slots on the sides of the watch with less than a 1/16" of material left between the slot and the back of the watch. The entire back is plastic, and guess what? After 2 months of charging it every other day, the 1/16" material just wore off. Now I can't attach the cradle to the watch. i.e: The watch can't be charged because the charging cradle won't snap on to the watch. If the back was made out of metal the design may have worked. If anything the charging cradle nubs would have worn off and could be replace (about $25)

My background is manufacturing engineering, and the day I got the watch I remember saying to myself, well there's a disaster waiting to happen. Against my better judgement I kept the watch thinking that Samsung must surely know what they are doing. Now I'm kicking myself for not listening to my own instincts.

He's the really horrible part...

After weeks of using tape to keep the cradle snug against the watch to be able to charge the watch, I finally decided to call Samsung support. They were nice enough and sent me instructions on how to send it to the repair center (at my cost). I get an email say ing that the watch was out of warranty and the repair would be close to $250. That's more than what I paid for the watch! Do a search on the internet and you will see that several other users are having the same issue. Way to go Samsung, create a crappy design and then disavow any responsibility for failures in the field.

I guess I'll stick to Apple products, at least they acknowledge their design flaws and take care of their customers.

NOT RAIN PROOF!!!!!!!!
by Diadem (5 out of 5 stars)
May 13, 2015

Oct 1 Update: still love it, wear it every day BUT got caught in the RAIN, the watch got wet, not submersed wet, but rained on good- wet. This caused the screen to flicker and do other bad stuff for about a day and a half. I Immediately dried it off, used low heat hair dryer on it and kept it off for 24hrs. Thank goodness it recovered! ALSO, when upgraded to S5 phone, I lost EVERYTHING on the Gear! Nothing was saved, apps, watch faces, photos... all gone.
Original review: Wow, wow, wow! Love this smart watch! Can't think of a single flaw. Not sure about the iPhone watch, but I bet this is its competition! Even though it's a year old already, I can't think of much more I'd ask for. Ok, here it is... A radio. Iheart radio is only a remote for your phone, it works well for that. Also, a battery icon. Battery still lasts a full 24hrs with use. That said, listening to music ON the Gear2 eats up the battery, but, my galaxy 3 phones' battery lasted half as long! Charging takes about 2 hours. The fit is easy and comfortable. Can be worn in the shower, a real plus for me, often forgetting to remove my watch. I'm super pleased!
Smooth and SUPER responsive touch screen, intuitive to a degree too. S voice works, you can actually call on it and volume is really decent. Speaker for listening to music is pretty darn good too! Happy, happy, happy! More apps and widgets if you please! This is a keeper! Blessings!

Update: I've had the watch for 3 days now, mind you, I bought it USED. The battery is better than first thought. After 16 hours of CONTINUOUS playing with, I still had 46% left. My phone which was being used along side, had to be fully recharged during that same time. My guess is that if you use it not necessarily sparingly, but occasionally throughout the day, it'll last 2 days.

I'm no electronics enthusiast or geek either, I like GOOD products so I am patient and am grateful to be able to do A LOT of research. I've had iPhones, droid X, galaxy, ipads, think pad, iBook, etc..

This is last years (2014) model of Gear. And you'd be hard pressed to do much better without paying DOUBLE. And that wouldn't get you double the quality either!

I used the dialer on the watch and called my home phone and left a test message, LOUD and CLEAR! The camera takes pretty decent photos too, remember when we paid HUNDREDS for a 2mp camera? There you go!

If you can get a good used gear2 for a discounted price like me $200, DO IT. If not, $300 is reasonable for this quality and function. Has everything you need in a smart phone. Otherwise wait 2 more years and THEN see what's new. They'll either get leaps and bounds better or they won't. In the mean time, I'll be enjoying my Gear2!!

Worthwhile Smart-watch -- A major step up from the Gear 1
by Scott (5 out of 5 stars)
October 19, 2014

Works well. Very comfortable to wear, and less bulky than the Gear 1.

I've owned the Gear 1 from the day it was released (a preorder), and I never felt I could use it due to battery life. I'm a Gear 2 owner for about a month, and very pleased--The battery life is better than expected. On standby with occasional active use, after 3 days the battery was at about 78%. If you leave this watch connected to your phone via bluetooth constantly, the battery will deplete faster.

Nice features include a phone capability when bluetooth paired, IR TV remote, and camera, along with a heart monitor, pedometer, and the ability to add apps from the Samsung store.

As an owner of the Gear 1, the Gear 2 is a major improvement for the better.

Watch is Constantly improving

Got my Gold/brown version loaded a Rolex watchface with watch styler app looks like a several thousand dollar watch many expensive watch faces are available for free Tag Heuer, Dolce& Gabbana, Citezen, and lotsa of customized watch faces as well, you literally could have a different watch face every day for a month.

The camera is surprisingly pretty good (had a common problem with first watch blurry focus, amazon replaced great service amazon) The watch is a camera, a speaker phone, a message center (texts, emails, notifications), game player, music payer, voice recorder, fitness tracker, remote control oh yeah schedule tracker, weather reporting and it tells time too.

S-voice also allows you to ask some basic general knowledge question like tallest buildings, age of famous people, who is prime minister of UK stuff like that its actually pretty cool having all that info on your wrist. as well as allowing voice control of opening apps responding to calls and or messages, emails.

The screen is by far the best one on a smart watch you can place your own pictures as the homescreen backround meening your watch can be as unique as you are.

So glad they made it IP67 certified no longer have to worry about washing my hands or taking a shower with my watch on.

App store is growing lots of useful stuff showing up on regular basis, calender apps, calculator apps, games like Pacman, Tetris, photo viewer, messenging app with keyboard (fleksy)

Samsung is getting better with this newish wearables segment others have some catching up to do.

Battery life is good 2-4 days depending on how much you play with watch

Fun Product...

I studied Usability and sometimes I can be bleeding edge, but I did wait for this second version of the watch. It's definitely a cool gadget and people I pass ask me about it all the time. I like the pedometer best. It definitely keeps me more active, and I love that it tracks history of activity and heart rate, which seems to be accurate enough. Not sure why it notifies me that I've achieved my goal later then when it actually happens. I love it for hands free driving with calls and that it helps find my phone! I was hoping to use it to stop and start Google Play, but so far it only seems to works with Samsung music (or I have yet to figure that one out). As a woman, we don't always have pockets to have phones on us. It's great to have notifications "on me" especially around the house (less running to get the phone, though that would be more steps). I would like to be able to change the band but haven't found them on the market, only in pics. I don't think the camera quality and position is worth it, so you can save with the Gear 2 Neo, which was a smart move to offer a less expensive model. I'm really enjoying it.. and as a fitness instructor, my classes enjoy knowing how many steps we have taken!

Love this! I use it more than I thought ...

Love this! I use it more than I thought I would. I decided on the Gear to replace the Fitbit Force that was recalled. The S Health app is awesome, but it doesn't sync with anything. So if you are looking for something that will sync with MyFitnessPal, Earndit, or any other third-party health apps, S Health will not sync to any.

The camera is very clear, colorful, and quick. It does make a shutter noise when taking a picture, and others will know when you are taking a picture. Just want to throw that out there. There are apps for the Gear that will let you control the camera on your phone.

The speaker is very clear for phone calls. Great for taking calls when your hands are full with a toddler and an infant, or dogs, or laundry, etc.

Pretty good but not great.
by Tinman (4 out of 5 stars)

I have enjoyed this watch. I'm still old school who feels I need a watch. I like the fact that I can easily look down to see who has texted, called, or if that was the email I was waiting for. However there are several real negatives. I used the watch as a screen lock for the phone. There are many times it doesn't know it's connected. Like it goes to sleep. Just fiddle for a few seconds or go ahead and use the swipe or pin to override. The next is the watch isn't very loud and the vibration isn't strong enough. There are many times I will miss notifications. That being said there are times that it misses notifications altogether. Perhaps like sleep mode. This doesn't happen often but it's possible. Some complain about battery life but I don't find it that bad. Just does require remembering to put on the charger. The cost of backup charger is spendy but I'm sure there will be a aftermarket one soon. I will get one to leave at work. I purchased mine previously loved and at a deep discount so I have no real issue but if I had paid full retail I'd be not so happy.

Samsung Gear 2

Arrived as promised (brand new). Easily synched with my Note 3 (I can't give it up). The watch itself is comfortable and less cumbersome than I expected. Based on feedback from callers, the quality of bluetooth microphone is excellent. Recharge is quick and a daily necessity since I use it frequently for phone calls, messages and voice memo. The only insight I offer is when using the clasp press from the base furthest from the locking point (see video). If you're a Sumsung fan you'll be as pleased as me. Enjoy!

Love it, but It is a limited extension of my phone. Not a timepiece without the phone nearby.Still l

I researched this and decided against a stand-alone internet watch. It would be cool, but products are not up to speed.

This watch pairs with my Galaxy S5 effortlessly.

It is a limited extension of my phone.

I receive notifications, can read text messages but cannot respond to them on the watch. Use phone. At least you know if it's important.

VERY nice to see who's calling/texting/emailing with phone still in pocket.

VERY nice to respond to phone calls and talk while driving by using the watch.

BE AWARE - this watch does not tell time unless it is in Bluetooth distance from phone. Didn't expect that. So, if you wear your watch and forget your phone, look somewhere else for the time.

Love it! but taking off one star

So much to say about this watch. I dont want to get into a long review, mostly because I do not have the time. It works well, it looks awesome, I always get asked about it on the street, and it's fun. Does anybody really need this? Not really. Its a toy. A fun toy for sure. And yes, sometimes it's convenient to not have to dig for your phone in your bag if you get an email from someone you know you dont need to look at right away. Bottom line, Im having tons of fun with it. The connectivity with Samsung's S Health app is also good. I can start my run tracking on the watch and when done, it quickly syncs to the phone. BTW, syncing works well and is always quick, whether its syncing running stats, pics or voice memos. About 3 seconds later, the data is on my phone.

On the downside, the screen sleeps and shuts off. As a watch, this is not convenient. You have to press the button with the other hand to see the time, and there are plenty of times when my hand is busy elsewhere, like holding on the pole in a NYC subway car. Ive started using my bottom lip to hit the button, which Im sure makes me look fabulous, but oh well.
