Outstanding espresso paired with top notch customer service
by Eric J. Olson (5 out of 5 stars)

This is an amazing espresso machine. I have used other hand powered espresso machines in the past - like the Rok - and they produced good results but the nomad is in a league of its own. It is easy to use and clean, produces coffee house quality espresso and is silent (a key attribute when you make espresso in the morning while your three year old is still sleeping). Pair this with a Baratza Encore grinder and top quality beans and you'll be set.

In addition to the performance of the machine and the quality of the espresso the customer service incredible. After six months of constant use the pressure gauge failed. While the machine still worked and I could make espresso by feel I wanted to get the pressure gauge working. I emailed the uniterra team on a Saturday morning asking for tips on how to fix and they got back to me in less than two hours. They let me know they could either send me a new pressure gauge free of charge to install myself or I could send it back to them for a free repair. I opted for the DIY method and received the gauge and clear installation instructions within 3 days. Just fixed my gauge - took about 10 minutes - and I am back in action.

I love this coffee maker
by W (5 out of 5 stars)

Update:

I have been using this coffee maker once or twice per week for almost 2 years and it still works as well as the day i bought it. I do clean the machine occasionally with soap and water but that is all. I still love it and highly recommend it.

Original:

I love this coffee maker. I use it as my primary coffee maker for one coffee per week. I love the flavor of the coffee I make. I cannot tell any difference between what I make out of this machine and what I get at the good coffee shops. What I make with the Nomad tastes much better than the chain coffee shops. The hand pump gives you complete control over the process. I feel like I am crafting my coffee as much as making it. It is easy to clean, but I would recommend purchasing a second filter basket if you plan on making more than one coffee in a reasonable time frame. The only other nit-pick I have is the short height of the output spigot off the counter. I end up putting the Nomad on my one inch thick cutting board so I can get anything taller than the flattest cup under it.

Impressive

Impressive. In a word, the Nomad is impressive. The elegantly simple design strips away the fussiness, and quite frankly, the error of most espresso machines that results in flat, bitter or otherwise off-tasting espresso. Near-boiling water + pressure + fresh grounds = great espresso. Who would have thunk it?! The Nomad's see-saw pump is easy to operate and does not require any significant amount of force. The drawer and basket are very easy to clean. The only negative that I can say about the Nomad is that the cap for the water reservoir can be difficult to grasp well enough to open. It's performed outstandingly on our counter at home, and I can't wait to use it traveling and camping.

Perfect espresso maker for use in a RV
by Amazon Customer (5 out of 5 stars)

We purchased this unit so we could easily make espresso drinks while dry camping in our truck camper. We have been using it for over two years without any issues. It works so well that we now take it with us when staying with friends who do not have an espresso maker. The other thing we did that makes it very easy to use was to purchase a second basket assembly. I can prep for two cups of coffee without having to empty, clean, and refill the basket. Since the Nomad holds enough water to make two cups of espresso, we can quickly make two cups and sit down and enjoy it together.

Love and curiosity at first sight

The best portable travel coffee maker as well as a kitchen jeweller! Suitable for people who needs their small daily hand made rituals, like me :)

We met in a beautiful small coffee shop in beautiful Taiwan, I asked out of curiosity what is this weird cubic device for, and it was introduced to me by a bartender, very dedicated one, and she made my decision for ordering this gem from my ever trusted Amazon :)

Way better than ROK

I love this thing. It makes great crema and almost a great shot every time no matter what the grind. Works best with Porta filter full. So easy to use.

Con: I wish it wasn't plastic. Me no likey hot anything in plastic. It could be BPA (B-G) free, that would be awesome.

So, it's been over a year and I haven't used it a whole lot. It is not working properly so I bought a new basket to see if that would help. It didn't... I'm looking into an exchange or replacement. I'm hoping- I can't afford a replacement every year.

Makes Adequate Espresso, But Badly Overpriced
by I. Allen (3 out of 5 stars)
November 24, 2016

Since they went out of business and my spare parts are now also broken, I've been looking for something that would make espresso as well as my MyPressi Twist did. This, though far more expensive, is not it.

The Nomad makes adequate espresso--hence three stars: it's okay. But it doesn't make great espresso, or even really good espresso. Even after making a bunch (I start each day off with four shots, single with the Nomad because the basket is small) of shots over the past month or so, keeping the pressure uniform is still a real chore. And making a bunch of shots back-to-back, even with the extra tray/basket, is a bit of a hassle.

I know I sound pretty negative, maybe more negative than a three-star review should be. The thing is, it really is okay. It's not great, but it's adequate. What's annoying is that something so expensive (way more expensive than the Twist was) is only okay.

If you're looking for a travel espresso maker, this is a decent option, but not at its current price-point. I'd wait until it gets down to 100 or 125 bucks or so.

Excellent espresso, at home or on the go!
by Matt S. (5 out of 5 stars)

This thing works wonders! I use a La Pavoni pre-millennium Europiccola at home in Seattle, but have to work a few months a year in Alaska. I decided to purchase the Nomad after really not being satisfied with the other espresso alternatives (not many choices when you live in Bush Alaska). I've owned it for about a month and a half now and have used it nearly daily.

In short, I am EXTREMELY happy with this little guy! It does produce a true espresso, smooth and without the scalded bitterness that can sometimes plague lever espresso machines that have gone on heating for too long. One can pre-heat everything per their instructions to get a nice and hot shot, but I find that - even without the preheating - the shot comes out plenty hot! The True Crema Valve (TCV) works fantastically well, and while I haven't yet tried the unit with the TCV removed, I find the crema on a shot produced with it installed to be quite real; it isn't ephemeral, it doesn't appear falsely aerated, and it tastes great.

Quick tip from my use: Once you've pre-infused the grounds, count 32-34 pumps back and forth on the lever, with the first 10-12 to get you up to pressure, and hover in-between the 8-10 bar range for the remainder to get a perfectly dosed (and perfectly timed to 30 seconds!) 2oz double shot. The attached photo was from my shot this morning; the thick crema is pretty readily apparent!

Everything is produced at a high quality level, from the drawer and portafilter basket to the tamp. Nothing feels flimsy in the least. Pair this thing with a Hario Slim grinder and a Bellman stovetop steaming unit, and great lattes are quick and simple!

This thing has been with us above the Arctic Circle and back! It's gonna stay with us forever!
