The ZUS ecosystem

I recently learned about Zus products earlier this year when I saw it at Walmart. I knew there were parking chargers that helped you find your car but I didn't think I needed one and I always thought they were gimmicks. The design was very clean and it caught my eye. A few months later I finally splurged and purchased a Zus smart car charger. It has been extremely convenient to find your car after a long day at a theme park (we've gotten lost several times at Universal Orlando and Disney World) or large mall. I really like the subtle things like the three-LED indicator and the elegant shine ports that help you plug in your devices in the dark. It's also one of the very few chargers that have reversible USB ports which, once you start using you'll wonder why this feature isn't more prevalent with USB ports in general. After using it for a few months I noticed there was a quick charge version but held off since I didn't own very many QC products. I finally got my hands on one and love seeing the green LEDs when a compatible QC device is plugged in. Keep in mind that if nothing is charging/powered through the ports, or your device is not QC, the LED indicator will remain white. It'd be nice if the elegant shine ports turned green but it remains white regardless of QC or not. I don't really keep track of how quickly they charge my devices but I can usually get a 20-40% increase in battery life within 30 minutes. I'll probably update this review once I start monitoring the charge rates. Because of this well-crafted charger and its features, I'm a proud owner of almost every Zus product including the newly released dash cam, backup camera, HD audio Bluetooth adapter, TPMS, and vehicle health monitor. Zus makes some solid products and this smart car charger has to be my favorite. I get a lot of compliments on the looks and its LED reversible ports. A cool additional feature that Nonda could possibly implement is the ability to change the elegant shine port colors via the app and maybe the three LED indicator could turn red/orange when charging and white when full. Another suggestion is to allow notifications when we park but no sound from the phone. I've had people look in my direction quite often when they hear that audible beep from my phone that I've parked. It's a great reminder to let you know it's saved your parking location but I'd also like the option to turn the sounds off. I know you can have no-notifcation zones such as your house but I'm talking about

Mileage Tracking not Working
by Zeng Sheng Liu (3 out of 5 stars)
March 10, 2018

The device itself is build in good quality. It has a nice finish on it and doesn't look "cheap" compare to others. I used it to charge my Samsung Galaxy S8+ and QC works without issue, and the apps records the battery voltage correctly without any issue. So why is the 3 stars? Well, the other feature of this, the mileage tracking, does not work. I drive ~40 miles to work daily, that ~80 miles a day. The problem is, the app only records the last section of the drive. Sometimes it records the last 15 miles, sometimes it records the last 2 miles. It has never once record the entire trip. I been in contact with their support for the past 2 weeks. They initially ask me to do some diagnosis like making sure the light is on all the time (which it is), make sure the app is running and the battery saving doesn't kill the app in the background (which I did add it to the exception list). After 2 weeks of communication, they claims that my device is working as expected. They said the device is most likely not connected to my phone during those time which cause the trip to not recorded correctly, but the fact that the voltage is recorded for the full trip (full ~40 miles drive based on the timestamp) proves otherwise. The last communication I have with them is on Wednesday, and its not Saturday and still no response.

It may be over-rated, and over-priced

I really don't get all the hype. This is a plastic car charger that works like any other.

There are two benefits to this one: 1) car location tracking and 2) reversible USB plugs.

The car tracking app is terrible, but it does offer voltmeter functionality, which is useful for me because my Jeep Wrangler doesn't have a voltmeter. The tracking is so buggy and unreliable that I haven't even bothered to keep the app on my phone anymore.

The reversible USB ports are amazing, because now there's no right or wrong way to insert a USB plug. That makes inserting plugs while driving a snap.

Some complaints I have is that it seems to make a constant high-pitch whine, almost like a high-frequency electricity noise. It bothers me and gives me headaches. It also seems to quit at times and I have to twist it in my 12v power source to get it to work again.

I like the white LED glow it has.

but I wasted my money on this device
by Charles (1 out of 5 stars)

I'm sorry to have to say this, but I wasted my money on this device. I bought it because I was going on a week-long cruise and had to park my car in a very large lot with no markings to tell which area I parked my car. I got the device well in advance, downloaded the app, and began to use them to be sure that I would be able to find my car when I returned from the cruise.

The directions for using the app and the Zus confused me. At first I couldn't get the app to detect the Zus. Then, the app would not consistently detect that I had parked my car. Through trial and error, I discovered that the Zus had to be plugged into an outlet that lost power when the car was turned off. After discerning that, the app successfully saved the location of my parked car more than half but less than all of the time.

When I got to the parking lot for the cruise on April 24, 2016, the app informed me that it had saved the location. I went aboard the ship, and soon after the app displayed a message indicating that it had FAILED to save the location, and that I should take a picture of the car. At the same time, it said that the last saved location was recorded on April 24, 2016!

In short, the hardware seems to work reasonably well, but the app is useless!

I bought this device strictly for locating my car, because my car has usb ports built into it, so I had no need for additional charging capabilities. As a result of the inadequate performance of the app, I wasted my money. Until the app is improved, I do NOT recommend buying this device.

Ingenious car location charger.
by Confounded Consumer (5 out of 5 stars)

I bought this for one reason -- to be able to find my car, which I'm constantly losing track of in large parking lots... I wasn't sure how it worked, at first, but was a bit skeptical about it's function.

Once it arrived, plugged in, and the app downloaded (which is about as easy as it gets), the function I bought it for was amazing. I was a little concerned at first that it may pair with my phone, and interfere with my phone pairing with the car. Not the case. The way it appears to work, is it uses your phone's location service, and stays in contact with the app, when the car is running, and power supplied to the charger. When you turn off your car, the app detects the loss of "heartbeat" with the charger, and plants a waypoint in the location service at that time. So, theoretically, you could be hundreds of miles away from your car, and since the app is following a coordinate placed in your location service, it will still take you right to your car.

Brilliant.

The downloadable free app is just as inspiring. Easy to use, large "radar-like" display with a rotating arrow that gives you both the direction, and the distance to your car.

The fact that it has two softly lit charging slots, and seems to charge my phone MUCH faster than previous chargers, is all gravy.

Definite thumbs up... and would recommend.

Would be great idea if it worked
by John Kolm (1 out of 5 stars)

Would be great idea if it worked, but it doesn't, so it isn't. It works when my car is parked at home. It has yet to work when my car is parked anywhere else - all you get is the "can't find it" message. This is when my car is parked outdoors, in the wide open, with no obstructions to the sky. You can easily use a free app to record your car's location using your phone's GPS - the attraction of the ZUS is that it automates this and you don't have to remember. But this thing is so flaky that I've given up messing with it. I plan to return it.

Images L to R: ZUS connected and working in car in an open car park, no concrete / competing free app FindMyCar has no trouble finding cat / ZUS fails to find car. Side-by-side test, same car, same locations. And yes, I did keep the ZUS app running in the background as you're supposed to. Nasty surprise if you ran off for a meeting and just assumed the ZUS would do its' thing.

I use to really like this car charger and locator
by B. Johnson (5 out of 5 stars)

I really like this car charger and locator. I needed a car charger (and this one works great) but why not also get a nice car locator. The locator works great. Just have the app open when you park your car. It automatically notes your car's location. When heading back to your car, simply bring the app up and it points towards your car and tells you the distance. Also, it has a map view if you prefer that.

EDIT: I've dropped my rating to 2 stars because of connection issues. The device may be fine but it won't connect reliably to my car's BT. If I remove the connection from within the app, reconnect, then all is fine. But this is a hassle. You may ask why I downgraded my rating on the device when it may be the app causing the issue. Well I downgraded both reviews. I can't tell what the issue is but regardless, it is a system (i.e. device and app) and with out all functioning perfectly, it has issues in my opinion. Plus I can't find support for this device or app.

EDIT: Went to 5 stars. I did find customer support and they were wonderful. Very helpful. Happy camper.

Use? Love? Recommend? Yes. I do.

Sleek, solid and oh so nice on my device. This charger delivers the goods. It does charge my phone, BT handsfree speaker and other devices much faster than the previous charger I had. The free app to find my car after parking is so very cool and handy! To make sure finding your car works, pair with Zus the first time (only needed once, it'll remember you going forward), turn on the GPS on your phone (where the app is installed), plug in your Zus (whether you're charging or not, but why wouldn't you charge?), drive, turn off your car, I remove the Zus from the socket since my car doesn't cut off electrical power, open the Zus app, find car. On the app, you can set a time reminder to feed the parking meter, take a photo of where you parked and show where car is parked on map. Showed to a friend, they want one. I completely love mine. Awesome invention! Great job guys!! Top notch!!!

Awesome tool, awesome value. So much more than a (FAST) charger if you want it to be!
by Mark PR (5 out of 5 stars)

Awesome tool. Everyone in LA should have this. After receiving the product and using it the first time, I was happy to see that the manufacturers weren't joking when they said the tool would charge my stuff faster. Not only that, but it has an app that you don't haveee to use, but I highly recommend using it (the apps free and doesn't mess with your battery). Not only does it tell you your parking location, it asks you if you need to have a timer for where your car is parked. So for example I used this when I was street parking in Los Angeles (I say Los Angeles because this city is notorious for the craziest parking laws), and it alerted me to move my car when specified. I had no idea I would be using this tool and app as parking helper but that's what it turned into. I would say with my iPhone 6+, it will charge from 20% to 60% in a mere 20 minutes. Almost better than buying a 12 amp charger that many people use at home. 5 stars hands down. Favorite little tool I have in the car! Potential thieves will never think that the "iPhone charger" is also a GPS!!! Lol

Half Baked Review
by Alan Mathon (3 out of 5 stars)
June 26, 2016

Great build quality and expert app that allows you to find your car. I actually was 45 miles away from my car and the app identified the direction and distance, stellar. I do hope that my data won't be destroyed using this device, it currently looks like it only uses minimal data consumption from Jun 1st to Jun 26th, the data consumption remained at 4.36mb which is fairly low.

The main gripe that I have is the fast charging capabilities because they are just non-existent. When I plugged in my wireless fast-charging pad into my car, I instantly knew there was an issue because my GS7 Edge was not telling me that I was getting a "fast charge." I tested the output with a few different devices such as a multi-meter and an inline voltage meter, the result was a 1.3 amp output. I was extremely disappointed because the claim was above 2.0 amps! I thought there was an issue with the digital signal and hooked it up to an oscilloscope and unfortunately, everything was the same. I thought again "was this just my unit?" but I actually purchased two of these devices and was confronted with an output of 1.2 amps from the second device. From my experience, don't purchase this device for the charging capabilities, get it for the app which beat my expectations.

Never lose your car
by Michael Hope-Jones (5 out of 5 stars)

Ever lost your car in a parking lot? Well, don't feel bad: we all have. For some time I have used the "Find my car" app to remember where I left my car. It works well, but you have to remember to load the app and "pin" the location of the car on a map before you leave the vehicle. The advantage of the Zus is that it does this for you automatically. Now you have to remember neither the location of the car nor the routine of pinning its location before you leave it. I consider this device to have great practical use. But it also allows you to track where your car is. This could be of interest to prying parents who want to know where their kids are or to unfortunate victims of crime theft who find their car has disappeared. Obviously the Zus can't be guaranteed to provide this information but the simple possibility that it could be used for recovering a stolen vehicle makes it worth much more than its unpretentious price.

Great product with great features!

I really like this product! It charges my devices quickly, and provides enough power to charge an iPad as well, which is nice. The shining star of this product is that it automatically saves my parking location every time I get out of my car. The associated app is incredibly easy to use and just works. It allows you to set parking reminders (such as for metered parking). It also can show you where you parked either on a map or as a compass-like arrow that guides you to car by pointing in its direction. In my experience, it is accurate and has never had any problems saving my car's location (except the few occasions when I parked in the lower levels of a 5 story parking garage, but it did send me a notification saying it couldn't get my location and suggested I take a photo of my car to save the location instead).
