Good emergency whistle, not bad for a lifeguard

Bought it as a new whistle while I'm lifeguarding, as it often gets quite loud in the building and it's sometimes imperative that I get people's attention.

PROS

Very loud - my ears are ringing after blowing it, and I like the pain

Floats - obviously good for in a pool

CONS

Looks like a vape pen - a patron asked me to not vape around her children, I replied by blowing the whistle at a running child

No good way to hold it - it is quite difficult to have a firm grasp and still be able to have all the sound come out

Mouthpiece - it's difficult to get a good seal on the whistle and still blow through it hard, I also have to clamp down on it with my teeth which isn't comfortable

The full sound is directed to the side - most times the whistle is louder to the side

All in all it is a very loud whistle, even louder than the air horns we often use. But, for my application it's not suitable for everyday use. It would however, be perfect for an emergency whistle.

This is probably the loudest whistle I have ever heard, although I can say for sure since I plug my ears with my fingers when I blow. I carry it in reserve as a last resort for aggressive bears and cougars when all other measures fail. If you find it in a pile of bear or cougar manure, you will know what happened to me.

Louder than hell!

I teach skydiving, and while Hollywood would have you believe that entire conversations can easily be held while in freefall, this just isn't the case- 150mph winds tend to be quite loud. Just for fun, I began buying every "miracle whistle" I came across, and testing them in freefall with friends, thinking that we could use a simple code for a few things, just to give us a line of communication without requiring line of sight.

I had tried everything- fox 40, storm, etc. I hadn't tried the Hyperwhistle yet because it looked too large and ungainly. Finally I was out of alternatives so I ordered one.

OK...this thing is loud. Crazy loud. Any reviewer who claims otherwise or compares its volume unfavorably to any other whistle on Amazon as of the date of this writing is lying. No doubt about it.

In fact, simply angle the mouthpiece into the relative wind during freefall and I think they can probably hear it on the ISS. LOUD. Seriously.

Will it ever become a standard part of a skydiver's kit? I don't know...it's still very loud up there, while it can be heard, it doesn't have the volume to get your attention unless you're specifically listening for it. Now, once you're under canopy, you can hear each other a looong ways away- certainly further than 2 miles!

I bought the whistle because I work in a high school. If there is a student fight we signal with a whistle for backup. Everybody has normal athletic whistle's. They work fine to call for help or during a game...
The HyperWhistle is a game changer. There was a fight on Wednesday. I hit the afterburners to stop it. I blew the whistle when I was about 7 feet and closing from the fighting students. They were so shocked by how LOUD the whistle was they stopped fighting!!! I tried to take both students by the hand to the office. One resisted. I hit the whistle again and got her hand when she went to cover her ears.
It came down to they would rather walk quietly to the principal's office than hear me blow the whistle a third time. A discipline referral is better than a hospital referral.
***Jan 28, 2019 I still stand bye my original recommendation. I have broken up quite a few fights with it. The students know the sound and it has the recognition that you don't want to be near it. It puts ANY rape whistle to shame. If someone is near you and you don't want them to be this whistle will deliver that message.

sorry but I was completely disappointed in how loud this actually was. I bought it for football games but I can whistle louder then this thing. and it is not designed to whistle for any length of time since it takes a lot of wind just to make it work. you will run out of breath very fast.

The worst part is I bought two. what a mistake.

I still haven't had the courage to blow this thing at full volume. Even with the complimentary ear plugs. I feel like I could best use this product with a can of compressed air, as an early warning device in a "Home Alone" or "Home Alone 2: Lost in New York" situation. It's super loud. 3 different tones to deafen you. It's sitting in my wilderness bag; just in case I need to be rescued from THE MOON. The moon counts as wilderness, right? I bet NASA could pick up the noise from this thing if I was in a "Home Alone 7: This movie is on the Moon!" situation.

Plastic danger, to yourself.....

I bought this because it claims loudest whistle. I will give it that is an extremely loud whistle if you're the one blowing it. My son and I tested it out on each other without the ear plugs that come with it. As soon as we got it we were excited, he blew first and I thought he was doing it wrong because it wasn't loud, But he claims his ears were ringing. So I took a turn and blew hard and sure enough my ears rang. It seems the sound bounces back to the blower. Now we were only mere feet from each other and the person not blowing had no effect. It's kind of gurgles out if you blow too hard. The air exits the whistle halfway through and bounces back. the tip of it is solid, not expelling any air or noise. Not for $11 I would not buy this again I would stick with the double barrel whistle as pictured. I don't have a decibel reading, but I'm very happy with the double barrel whistle.

WOW this sucker is loud. Wisely they provide a set of ear plugs. Makes a nice distintive sound that will be noticed at quite a distance. It comes with a detatchable lanyard which is a nice addition. My only wish ih that this came in international orange or bright yellow to help find one dropped in underbrush.

This whistle was the only one of its kind with 5 of us back packing the gates of the Artic National Park in Alaska, and it was truly fantastic. At times we needed to send one of us around a bend to scout parts of a river or make a climb and signal back....and this whistle overcame the river noises or mountain curves. Outstanding piece of equipment. I wish it was a little less bulky but trust me, well worth having it.
