WTF: What the Fur???
by KBoer (5 out of 5 stars)
March 15, 2018

Every once in a while, something comes along that makes you realize your housekeeping has a lot to be desired--for me, this was it! I've been so excited to test out the R7070 but have had a tough week with sick kids, pets needing exercise and life in general. I thought why not just charge it, turn it on and figure it all out later.

Without any programming, the POWERbot proceeded to take itself around the house and pick up dirt, pet hair, "wheelchair dirt" and more. At the end of its cycle, I can't decide if I was in awe or disgust. My husband had vacuumed two days before with our tried and true metal janitorial style vacuum and by quick glance, noticed a little pet hair on our mostly cork floors, but carpets didn't look too bad. I was WRONG...just see the attached picture of what came off the floor.

I like the unit seems pretty gentle approaching trim as my biggest concern was damaging our woodwork and furniture. While not perfect, exceeds my expectations. I also like that it is fairly quiet for a vacuum. In quiet mode, you can have a conversation with it nearby. I would compare the volume level as less than a car wash and while the dog and cat don't love it, they will stay in the room while it is running without agitation.

My concerns so far include how to handle getting trapped (managed to get inside a kitchen barstool towards the end of its charge) and how to ensure it gets back to it's charging base when done. Since my first few attempts have had limited issues with "returning home automatically".

Eventually will get there as looks super intuitive using the Samsung Connect App I already had on my S7 Edge but wanted to start out with just the "play" button and go from there-no matter the method of remote, phone or button on the front of the vacuum, they all just work without my having to do anything but start. If I change my mind mid-process, just hit the home button and just as easily it stops and goes back to charging. Also, looking forward to connecting to NEST, Amazon Echo, Google Home and IFTT to see how they all interface. So far, not sure I can give this up. And, as an added bonus, I am vacuuming now as I am writing this review!

What I like:
* My house is cleaner than ever
* My dust allergies have stopped bothering me
* It saves time and doesn't tie me to the vacuum cleaner
* Intuitive even when there is a problem-a shoelace got stuck in the vacuum and it stopped itself to wait. A code came up on the display, but even better, I just opened the app on my phone and it told me the problem in words so I could fix in seconds
* Hair is picked up for both pets and myself (think long as in to lower back) and easy to get rid of---I used to clean roller multiple times per use and now it is just once a week and takes minutes
* My wall trim and furniture looks the same after vacuuming as before-no dings and gets right to the edges
* It runs and then takes itself back to recharge without me having to do anything
* Dust/hair collection doesn't require a bag and takes seconds to empty
* It is not disruptive to other household activities while running for the people or pets

What could be better:
* It's an expensive initial investment
* On vacuum, the display has codes that have to be looked up either in manual or in-app (still easy)
* I've realized there are some pretty disgusting things on our floors

Consumer Reports got this one wrong
by Joe (2 out of 5 stars)

I am a Samsung user on many products they deliver and am quite pleased with their electronics, i.e. UHD TV, cell phone, sound bar, etc. I thought I would extend my wonderful experience to their robot vacuum line and give it a shot, despite a lot of the less than favorable reviews. Well....im sorry to say, it was a mistake.

Write off the bat after opening the package it came in, I immediately noticed all the seals were broken on the OEM packaging. I was immediately not happy about that. After taking the vacuum out and doing a quick inspection, I noticed that the batteries to the remote were not included although the instructions say they were. My opinion is I received a pre-owned product. Nevertheless, i continued to unpack and ultimately charge the vacuum for it's first crack at vacuuming my house.

After maybe 2 hours of charging it was ready to go. Within 30 secs of its maiden voyage, I noticed something wasn't right. It would not transition from the hardwood floor to a throw rug whatsoever. The rug is less and a half inch thick. The vacuum would shake back and forth continuously until I get an error saying to clean the cliff sensors. It's brand new, how can they be dirty!! After some research, I read that when this vacuum transitions to a dark surface or black bordered rug there is an issue with the sensors. BINGO! What was happening was apparently the vacuum recognized the black color border around the throw rug as a drop off. I tested this theory by placing masking tape over the sensors and tried it again and sure enough, that was it. It climbed the rug effortlessly. But seriously...i had to modify a $700 vacuum right out of the box?

Despite my irritation, I let the vacuum do it's thing waiting for the wow factor to kick in. The manual states the vacuum will automatically adjust suction when transitioning from hardwood floor to rug. This one did not. What is also mind boggling is I see it run over a very loose crumb on the carpet, yet does not suck it up. By this time I'm about to give up. No wow factor.

This unit took 3 complete battery charges to fully vacuum my house of 2800 sq ft. There is even times it will vacuum once and all of a sudden return for charging after about 20 mins, although the indicator on the top says the battery is full.

Overall, it will pick up dust especially under the couches and furniture where a normal uptight cannot get to quite well, but if you are looking for a robot vacuum, look elsewhere. Samsung has some homework to do on this model.

What a piece of junk! Don't waste your money!

What a terrible product, less than 2 months old, and now it stopped working! It would start to clean, and everytime it goes over an uneven surface, it stops working, "reboots" itself and just sits there, which I have to start all over again. It is currently rendered useless, but Samsung hasn't been able to take it in for service or fix the problem! What a waste of money on a piece of junk.

In theory, great! In execution, no so much...

First off, this is not a normal vacuum. Don't expect it deep clean or anything like that. We knew this going in so we vacuumed the house really good right before we started using the robot vacuum. At first it was really good. It would vacuum on schedule and kept the house clean, picking up fine dust and dog hair with ease. After about two weeks the robot vac started giving us trouble. It would start at random times, but was still cleaning so were okay. Eventually it would turn on around 12 am which would wake up our baby, which sucked, no pun intended. After a while it would turn on, still off schedule, but wouldnt suck. It would just drive around the house rolling through dirt. The vacuum proximity sensors aren't great, it would get stuck on everything, running up chairs and other stuff. I would get an alert while at work all the time about making sure the vacuum was on an even surface.

In theory this vacuum is awesome, but in execution, not so much. It just seems like this vacuum has quite a few kinks that need to be worked out. I generally like Samsung products but I think I will wait a while before I try a Samsung robo vac again.

WOW!

I purchased the iRobot Roomba in 2007 so I have always been a fan of a robot vacuum rather than a regular vacuum.

I bought the Samsung POWERbot R7070 Pet Robot Vacuum as its replacement. I had cleaned my house 2 days before receiving it in the mail but thought, "why not try it out anyways", so I did just that. WOW! That's basically all I could say after I used the Samsung POWERbot R7070 for the first time. I am very meticulous when I clean so I thought the house was spotless, well, little did I know how much hair, dust and dirt had accumulated in just 2 days! The suction power on this robot is incredible and the "Edge Clean Master" is a real thing, it worked miracles on all the corners of the house. The smart technology is very advanced, not only am I able to command it from the app, but it barely rams into anything. It was able to go under and around all my furniture, unlike with the Roomba where it would either bump all my furniture around as it tried to clean or get stuck and beep until I adjusted it. "‹

Another huge "plus" with the Samsung POWERbot R7070 is that it cleans without an issue. It goes over my rugs, which are a bit raised, and sucks everything out! And, it is not loud, in comparison to a regular vacuum or the Roomba. I can actually watch TV while it is cleaning, in comparison, with the roomba, I would have to clean a separate room of the house if I wanted to watch TV because it was so loud."‹

One final point I want to make, is that this will turn any "non believer" into a believer. My husband thought the roomba did a good job but was not convinced it picked up all the dirt, dust and hair from under the furniture or in the nooks and crannies of the house, like those pesky corners between the door and the wall or between the wall and the kitchen cabinets. But the moment we used the POWERbot for the first time and he opened up and saw all the dust and hair it collected he was a believer! "‹

Overall, I am happy I made the switch to the Samsung POWERbot and I highly recommend it to anyone that wants to make their lives 100000000% easier.

To my mind they all do a pretty good job
by Marc W. Gilbertson (5 out of 5 stars)

I've had several different types of robot vacs. Roomba, Bob, and now Samsung. To my mind they all do a pretty good job, but my Samsung is by far my favorite. Why? POO! Every now and again, my dogs have an accident and the thing gets all clogged while it drags the poo around. Of all of my Vacs, the SAMSUNG is the easiest to clean. I'm probably in the minority with this, but if you do have that problem, this one is definitely best for that.

Like I said, they all have good deals... Roomba is probably the smartest and Bob has the biggest bin. However, SAMSUNG has 'ease of poo' removal.

Not worth the hassle

I wanted to like this vacuum. Purchased the R7070 version. Worked once never created a map. Then one day I just happen to be home when the PowerBot decided to stop vacuuming but keep rolling on the floor like it was. Called Samsung tech support they said it needed to be serviced, mine was 7 yes 7 days old. Settled for an exchange thru Amazon

UPDATE:
2 WEEKS LATER

The new R7070 was working fine I even had some coverage maps ๐Ÿ˜ Then without warning it just stopped again. Called tech Support once again ohhh it needs to be serviced yeah right this unit was only 14 days old.

Conclusion:

Returned and purchased a Neato D5 happy so far.

Device broke within 30 days of normal use -- but BEWARE OF SAMSUNG's TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE
by S B Briggs (1 out of 5 stars)
July 24, 2018

The vacuum broke within a month of starting to use it normally (1,000 sq ft living area, normal dog hair). When it worked, it was fine, though the App is a bit cumbersome. Now, the suction is still fine for dust, but it doesn't pick up dog hair or string or other visible items anymore.

The worst part, however, has been the Samsung service. I have had to send in the device three times, and each time Samsung has returned the device without fixing. When I have tried to get in contact with people to see what needs to happen to fix the device no one can give me an answer. Now, time has passed and they say "you are past the warranty, we can't fix it" even if I offer to pay for the repairs. I just have a broken vacuum and no way to get it working again.

Ohh Samsung how I wanted this to work....

After months of searching for the perfect electronic housemaid,, I took the plunge and went with Samsung based on a review I saw with Mobile Tech Reviews (Laura). She had me convinced Samsung got this one right... Well, she was wrong. My Rosie was afraid of the dark (Would not go under my couches) it had plenty of clearance but she just refused. Second, After many attempts, she seemed lost, very erratic cleaning patterns, would not go the same route, Missed areas even after letting her charge and re-attempt. Working her way back to the dock drove me nuts, she would take the longest most cluttered route when a 4ft by 25ft path was wide open, instead, she wanted to snake through the dining room chairs to eventually find her charging port.

My Rosie had a carpet alergy, she refused to transition from hard floors to very low pile carpet, I caught her one time testing the bedroom but that was it, never again after many attempts to clean any carpet in the house.

Alexa Integration was awful at best, the Samsung app has literally no control other than return to charge, increase suction, Start-Stop.

Positives: She had strong suction

Build Quality Seemed Great

Packaging was Awesome, Fully protected so much so you could drop this from a roof and it would survive

I really wanted this to work, Samsung when you get this right I'll give you another shot. Until then, back to my search for the perfect robot vac.

It certainly does "suck" - Great!

This product is packaged wonderfully, like other Samsung products. There is a certain odor associated with the product I received. It wasn't offensive/unbearable, but just not a normal smell that I would expect from a new product. Although, that didn't affect the great experience I am having with this product. Pros: Powerful suction Edge cleaning technology works great Scanning the room to ensure it covers almost all surface area Responsiveness with Voice controls Cleanliness after the job is done Different suction modes Schedule modes to clean while out of the house Cons: Wi-Fi connection isn't constant (sometimes) Turbo suction mode is very loud (I'd prefer a more quiet suction) The collection tray is on the small side, but it does a lot of cleaning. Samsung SmartThings (Classic) not allowing me to add it Too many Samsung Apps to use different Smart controlled "Things" Conclusion: The PowerBot r7070 is a great product. The kids enjoyed dropping things to tell it to clean up and watch it for a bit. Now it's become a part of our household Smart Devices, which is great. Since I've had some time with it, I have set up clean modes when everyone is out of the home. I have motion sensors throughout my home that allow it to know when things "quiet down" or we are away. I've also got it set up to do this only during certain hours, for example, everyone leaves and no motion for 1 hour it cleans. Then, when it senses we arrive or motion is detected, it will automatically know that we don't want to be in its way or we don't want it in our way, to go back to it's "home" station.
