Beware this is a ripoff
by Corey Williamson (1 out of 5 stars)

Right off the bat the Torp design looks fine and works fine but the entire case and handle are plastic. It gives a cheap feeling and while performs fine, doesn't give me confidence in its durability.

Before buying it's important to be aware of the model this company has laid out. It is the razor to razor blade model or printer to printer ink model. This means they don't make a profit off selling you a Sub (razor, printer), they make a profit selling you beer (razor blade, printer ink). The problem with this model is that beer is readily available everywhere. So almost anyone can compare the 25% markup for beer and go "why would I pay 25% more for something I can buy right down the street?." It's a great question, and Hopsy will try and trick you into believeing it's due to the beer being better. Let's just get that out of the way and make it clear the beer, if better, is only marginally. Because unless you want flat beer you need to pay extra for cold shipping. This means go ahead and bump the 25% to 30% markup if you want to beer to be equal to a beer you can buy at a gas station down the street.

In summary don't pay $150 to be forced into buying overpriced beer to try and justify the purchase like I have. It's a complete ripoff and your better off just getting bottled beer.

They will charge your card after you cancel

Again and again and again they have done this to us. We never signed up for a recurring service. Just the HUB and one box of beer. The value for what you get is terrible. Beer is good, but not at $7/ 12oz glass - you only get a yield of 3.5 12oz pours. No matter how we ask to cancel, they still charge. We have changed our card number, yet they still somehow charge us. Legit the first company I have considered retaining a lawyer against. This is unreal.

Not worth it.

Looks cool but doesn't come with any sample cans either and the only way to get them is through their website which is too expensive and the beer is alright. Nothing with worth the price.

High price

So my wife got me The Sub for fathers day and the dollar beer box. It was super cool and the beer taste great on tap but here's the catch. If you don't sign up for the club which is like 62 bucks without tax, then you pay 20 bucks for 1 torpedo of beer plus tax and plus shipping and delivery which is 15 bucks for san diego. So 40 bucks for 5 pints. So expensive to buy just one torpedo. And I think its 10 bucks for a already cold one.

It's nice to have local brewed IPAs
by Dee Dee (3 out of 5 stars)

It's nice to have local brewed IPAs, but the Torp system seems new, while there is a good variety, your choices are limited in that you can only buy them through the one distributor, where you can either drive an hour and a half to pick up or pay the $9.99 delivery charge. Plus they have not worked out a way to recycle the Torps unless you are within their Free delivery area. The torps are basically a 2 liter plastic bottle of beer with the tube already attached and very easy to change out. You must keep them refrigerated, so we had to buy an extra small refrigerator for them. We had a BeerTender before, it was nice because you could buy the small mini kegs in the grocery store or beverage outlets, and you didn't need to keep them refrigerated, but the extra tubes were annoying to keep on hand and order and they didn't have too much variety or IPAs.

the torps are hard to get

I bought this for my husband as a fathers day gift and the look of it is nice and sleek. the design is simple the only problem we have is the torps, it seems like the only place you can get them is hopsy and that's fine but if your like me and live in the midwest they say it can take up to 2 and half weeks to get the beer I don't know if they're driving the beer from California to Ohio themselves lol but that seems somewhat ridiculous

Awesome machine, a MUST for beer lovers
by favreervaf (5 out of 5 stars)

As a beer lover, this device and service are amazing. The machine is high quality. It adds a great uniqueness to our kitchen, and is an awesome option for guests when we host gatherings or parties. The Hopsy service is awesome and easy to use. They cold ship the TORP's or mini beer kegs that go in this machine right to your door. The TORPS are around $18-24 each and with this VIP package you get the 'Sub' machine (by Krups), 4 TORPS, a $50 gift card and 4 beer glasses. (VIP Package is $199 on Groupon) That's an insane deal. The only thing I was dissatisfied with was 3 of the 4 glasses came broken. I emailed Hopsy and someone responded within 2 hours and they shipped another 4 glasses free, only 1 was broke. I commented on their packaging and handling has to be better but I do not believe this warrants losing a star on. Overall this thing is amazing and chills and compresses the beer so you get a real draft beer right in your own home. Easy as hell to use and impressive for guests.

The Sub takes too long to cool the beer, the beer is too foamy. Its too hard to find beer other than Hopsy and is overpriced.
