Good Product

Oh, man, I have such mixed feelings about this.

I really like it. It does soothe my OCD, high-anxiety dog. But we've spent thousands on special vet appointments, drug and cannabis oil experiments, treats and calming ideas. So, the question is, "do I like it $129+ tax??"

And the answer is, if I had more money to throw around, probably. But not after all the other funds we have thrown into solving the problem.

The RESULT: If my dog is looking like he's about to escalate, and is feeling anxious, I would pop it on and he would go and lay down (a GREAT thing.) If he was already most of the way to maximum escalation, this was not strong enough to soothe him or stop him from having an OCD tail-chasing episode. And so, sadly, back it must go to the amazing people at Amazon. My husband just wasn't willing to lose all that money on something that didn't work for our extreme needs. I can't really over-state, though, how cool it is that it worked to calm him before he reached say a level 6 of kooky.

The FIT was ok. Just fix those damn back straps, folks! Bruno is long and lean, and approximately knee height. Photo provided. Medium height dog, and I got a large halter, which was correct for him. He's 50lb, a cross between a Boxer and a French Bulldog. (Hey, don't ask me how that happened!) His waist straps at the back were cheap and therefore, way too loose. Others have mentioned this. The front straps are good. They give you some kind of little tightener strips to do surgery with if the straps are too loose, but every time he wore it, the straps were loose after a while and I would look at them and think $140 with tax... that shouldn't be my job. The front fit him really well. I never used the the extra tightening strips for the back/waist because we knew we'd send it back if it didn't work. Stick on a bit of sticky-back velcroe and you'll be gold.

The SOUND: a very slow version of Fur Elise. For the reviewer who calls it "creepy", I would say, get a grip. Think of a lullaby on a music box for a child and that's what it's like. It's VERY quiet though. There's no way to turn up the volume, but I also think there's no need to. You don't want a symphony going on, you just want your dog to calm down. The sound is somewhat affected by the vibration function, but not in a bad way. For the tiny batteries, in here, I'm amazed it can do all that at once AND the batteries do last for me.

The FUNCTION: Vibration is adjustable and has two levels, and you better believe I had it on the highest one every time. You can press the button once for on and then repeatedly for how you want it to behave. My choice was always: High vibration, repeat cycle, long cycle.

Hope this helps someone.

It is an awesome device. I have a Bichon who is terrified by electronic sound and thunder, I used petmate calmz on him and he became calm in about 3 minutes.

I highly recommend.

Has not seemed to help our dog with separation anxiety. We followed the directions. When we are home and he wears it he is fine. However, when we leave it does not seem to reduce his anxiety.

Uncomfortable fit for my small dog
by TPA_Gemini (2 out of 5 stars)
April 2, 2018

I gave this two stars because I ended up returning it. I have a 10lb Shmorkie-poo who is afraid of t-storms and flying. I was hoping to use this on an upcoming flight, but I never got that far. The vest was the show-stopper for her. Although it fit (the XS size) when she was standing up, when she laid down and curled up or laid on her side, it bunched up under her chin and rode up her back. She was clearly uncomfortable, and usually moved from place to place (couch to her bed and back) to get comfortable. Note - this is a dog who wears a harness regularly for walks.

As for the device - I followed the directions to acclimate her to it, and even got it in the harness once. But, while she wasn't agitated by it, it definitely didn't calm her. I didn't have time to keep trying. I could see that she was uncomfortable, and flying is hard enough for her. I returned the product. I think it would work better for a larger dog.

This worked! as soon as i used it on my Pitbull rescue who suffers from severe separation anxiety the first night he had it on he was ok for 1-4 hours! We came back home and there he was. Super calm and relaxed on our couch. I use this all the time and it works. Hopefully can move away from it but in the mean time it works wonders.

greatest thing for my anxious dog

This was a God-send. My Yorkshi can predict rain and thunder. Watch him shiver and tuck his tail. Took a couple of tries to get him used to this but now, he actually looks for it if it begins to thunder and rain hard. Great device. Works like a charm.

Very impressive results. Really helped out our Maggie.

We have always had a lot of dogs. One of our sweetest is a middle aged beagle named Maggie. She is the most loving and mushy dog I have ever owned. We got her from a rescue and have had her for over six years. She is also one of our dogs that is very afraid of thunder and any type of firework. And I do not mean a little bit of panting and walking around. At the slightest sound of distant thunder or fireworks she goes into a full blown panic attack. She will walk into every room of our house multiple times. She will pant until she starts to gag. The thing she does that just screams fear is that she will just start to randomly urinate. I have tried to hug her and keep her close but she wants no part of it. This will last for about an hour after a firework or thunder clap. Needless to say I have a very good baseline to test out the calms anxiety system.

It did not take to long to do our first test. We have a bar that is on the water a few hundred feet away and they always shoot off big rockets on Friday and Saturday nights. As soon as I heard the first pop I put the vest on her and turned on the controller and put it in the vest. I really am greatful that the vest can be put on so quick. I picked the calming tone sound and vibrations. At first she start the panting and drooling but she did not seem to be doing her frantic walking. She walked around the room a little than to my utter disbelief she came back and sat next to me. This never happens. Her panting was also no where near the intensity that it normally is. I started a timer to see how long she was going to stay stressed. I had to restart the timer once because another firework went off. After 8 minutes she stopped her lite panting and was acting like her normal mellow self. I almost started crying. This compared to her normal panic was like night and day. I even got to recheck the results the next night. Sure enough more fireworks and I achieved the same results like the night before. Thank you so much. I never like to see an animal suffer and this device allowed my Maggie to get through her greatest fears.

My dog has separation anxiety pretty bad. I tried it on him a few times and it made no change in his anxiety. I gave it 2 stars even know it didn't Work because the product is good quality and was easy to use. My dog is a 17 lb terrier mix and I got a small. It fit him pretty well.
