Product Description

For any parent, the safety of their children throughout the night is always a concern. Whether you’re the proud new parent of your first child or you’re a veteran parent, this is a fear that never goes away as long as you have a baby in the house. As parents, we understand the worry that comes with having a child, whether it’s a newborn or an older boy or girl. That’s why we invented the Owlet Smart Sock! Moms and dads everywhere will love this no-fuss monitor! This one-of-a-kind baby monitor helps you watch over your baby while they sleep. Most baby monitors will only alert you if your child wakes up and is crying during the night. This monitor sensor, however, measures your baby’s heart rate and O2 levels. By using clinically proven pulse oximetry technology, our monitor sock alerts you with sounds, lights, and smartphone notifications if these vital readings exceed or drop below normal levels. When everything’s normal, the bedside base station glows with a steady green light. The Owlet Smart Sock 2 Baby Monitor has a wrap-over design and it fits snugly over your infant’s foot, just like a normal sock would. It is completely wireless, so there’s no way your baby can get tangled up in cords while they sleep. Each unit includes 3 washable socks that connect to a base station up to 100’ away using technology. The socks fit most infants from 0 – 18 months or 6 – 25 pounds. The socks should be hand washed regularly and alternated from right to left foot each night it’s used. These socks are BPA-free, latex-free, and lead-free, making them completely safe for an infant. Your little one will be comfortable as they sleep, and parents can sleep better and have less anxiety knowing their baby is safe and sound.

Features

  • Know your baby is okay: Track your baby's heart rate and oxygen levels while they sleep using clinically-proven pulse oximetry, and be notified if something appears to be wrong. Have complete peace of mind knowing you can keep track of your baby's heart rate and oxygen levels from anywhere.
  • Worry less and sleep better: The Smart Sock connects to a base station that glows green letting you know everything is okay, but uses lights, sounds and app notifications if heart rate or oxygen levels are too high or too low. Parents can sleep better and have less anxiety knowing they'll be made aware if levels go outside of preset zones.
  • Convenient, easy-to-use: Each unit includes 3 washable socks that comfortably wrap around the baby's foot and connect to a base station up to 100 ft. away without wires. Socks fit most infants from 0-18 months or 6-25 pounds and should be hand washed regularly and alternated from right to left foot each night. Always keep the base station at least three feet away from your baby's crib.
  • Smart phone app: See real-time heart rate and oxygen levels on multiple phones using Owlet's cloud-connected app. Free iOS & Android apps available. New history tab provides parents with historical trends for heart rate and oxygen and sleep tracking--see how long & how well baby slept.
  • Our Promise: Love it or return within 30 days for a full refund, making it a great gift for baby registries and showers or as a gift to new parents. BPA free, latex free, lead free. Owlet app only supports 2.4 GHz wireless router. Only connect to a private network that requires a secure password

Works well for us, but might not be for you

When my baby was 8 days old, he had an apneic spell, desaturated and turned blue so we spent the next 2 weeks in the pediatric intensive care unit. We were scared to go home because we didn't know if these episodes would come back again after being discharged so we purchased the Owlet. We're happy being able to monitor my son's heart rate and O2 levels which was our biggest concern. We started off by having him wear it all day and night and the battery life kept up with the amount of time he had it on. Since our purchase in July (now late September), we only put it on at nights and charge it during the day and have enough battery left over for the next night if it's not charged for the day. Monitor will play "Mockingbird" lullaby and light up yellow if the placement is off or the sock has fallen off and can't get a reading. Same lullaby will play if the base gets disconnected from the sock and will light up blue which are the 2 most common reasons why the monitor goes off. Personally it doesn't bother me when that happens, but I know some people hate it and consider it a 'false' alarm. The monitor will turn red and make a really loud annoying sound to notify you of any abnormal changes in baby's heart rate or oxygen level. My kid can get his heart rate pretty high when he's crying, so I turn off the monitor when he's crying to avoid it going off. I also turn off the monitor and remove the smart sock off child's foot when he has a dirty diaper because he can dig his foot in his poop if I don't. Remember to turn off the monitor by app or base before taking off the sock to avoid monitor going off. Heart and oxygen levels are pre-set and there's no way to change that. One thing we learned while being in PICU was not to read the monitor when it's going off, instead look at your baby to determine if he/she is truly in distress.

Bottom line, you're either going to love the Owlet, or you're going to hate it.

I feel like for the price of the item all services should ...

Im only giving 4 stars because you have to pay to get the additional services on their Conected Care app. I feel like for the price of the item all services should be included. However, I do sleep much better knowing my little one is being monitored. He has a heart condition so I keep it on him most of the time during the day too for my own peace of mind.

Worth the cost!

Worth every penny for peace of mind, especially during the high SIDs risk age range. Easy to pair to your phone for monitoring but you don't need to for it to work. The base will alarm with a noise and color if oxygen or heart rate levels drop. Comes with multiple size booties to fit a growing baby.

Gives great peace of mind while you sleep.

My baby was born at 30 weeks gestation and spent a month and a half in the NICU before we could bring him home. Another mom in the NICU told us about the Owlet and I'm so glad she did! It's easy to setup and comes with 3 sock sizes so you can keep using it as your little one grows. It gives us such peace of mind knowing that if something happens with him we'll know immediately!

It's easy to setup. All you have to do is plug in the base and then use the cord that comes with it to plug the sock in for charging. The base changes colors to let you know that things are working properly. After charging you just put the sock on your baby's foot (it fits left or right) and that's it! It has its own pre-set parameters for when to go off.

The only thing I don't like about it is the phone app, which is why I only gave it 4 stars. It doesn't load consistently and most of the time it just says it's "searching for the base station" so you have to rely on notifications from the base itself. I just keep the base plugged in wherever I'm going to be at the time. Other than that I love the thing!
*Edit* I brought the issue with the app connection up with the company via their Facebook and they told me how to power cycle the unit and it's worked flawlessly ever since! They have great customer service!

The best baby product I have ever bought! A MUST have!
by XFitLauren (5 out of 5 stars)

This is my mommy-must-have! I tell everyone I know to buy this! I don't think I would get any sleep at night without my owlet! I was very nervous to buy this after reading the reviews - a lot of which were negative. However, I have been using this product for almost 4 months and I have had no issues. I have not experienced any false alarms. The battery lasts super long and charges very quickly. My baby sleeps every single night with it on. I understand it is not to replace safe sleeping practices, but using safe sleep practices and the owlet allows me to sleep. I cannot say enough great things about this. If you are on the fence, I hope my review helps you to make the purchase. The price of mind is worth every penny! And the connected care app is now free so you can see sleep trends for free.

A pretty terrible product

0. (Edit) we have now had the sock for 14 months and it no longer charges. I got a new cable but the problem seems to be the sock itself. The warranty is only 1 year (though it's recommended use is 18 months), so that's $300 down the drain
1. We have had the monitor for a week, and of that the owlet servers have been down for 2 days (71% availability) which in turn prevents the app from functioning. This, of course, begs the question: why in the world does my baby's data need to be uploaded to owlet servers just to show me her heart rate and oxygen levels? Why are they collecting data at all? Why can't I opt out of it? Doesn't the functionality of the device suggest that the base only needs to talk to the sock and my phone? If the base and sock are already connected with Bluetooth, why can't my phone be as well? I realize this would limit the distance between my phone and the base, but I'd at least like the option for going offline.
2. The app constantly gets stuck at "attempting to connect to base station." More often than not, it seems that the app isn't even working, which is both worrisome and, frankly, an outrage given the lofty price tag on this device.
3. The documentation is outdated and poorly written. The text is riddled with typos and references a UI that no longer exists.
4. The sock is very sensitive to disconnectivity and plays an ear-splitting alarm on the phone and the base that you have to rush to turn off. There does not seem to be a way to lower the volume or temporarily disable the alert on the phone (if one parent goes to bed while the other watches baby). Coupled with the amount of false alarms that the sock generates, it hardly contributes to a good night's sleep. We really can only use it in conjunction with someone watching baby anyway.
5. The base cannot connect to guest wifis that require accepting terms and conditions. This prevented us from testing the sock at the doctor's office, but would also prevent us from using the sock at most hotels.
6. The sales pitch preys on anxious new mothers, convincing them to pay up for a better night's sleep while shipping a sub-par product that can trigger more anxiety than it soothes (like the heart attack when the sock is disconnected for a second or two before it fixes itself)
7. Apparently there is an "advanced" app for the sock that you can /subscribe/ to for another $10 a month, as if essentially paying for a smartphone for your baby isn't already enough.
8. The text in-app is often garbled and has missing characters (likely some encoding problem from Owlet)
9. *Any* movement from baby (or from parents rocking baby to sleep) causes the data to be ignored, so in reality the sock is only useful when baby is completely still while sleeping and there is no guarantee that the alarm will fire if baby is moving frantically (say, because she is struggling to breathe)

After shelling out $300, I hoped for a product that was at least semi-reliable, but I am instead extremely disappointed.

It is a good idea in the end, and there isn't much out there like it, but it only offers peace of mind when it works, which is rare, and adds one more thing to the list of worries: Is the Owlet working right now? It is hard to sleep with any sort of trust in this system since it seems extremely susceptible to failure at any moment and without notice. I could well go to bed thinking my baby is being watched when in reality she just has a function-less, ultra-designer-priced sock on her foot.

Owlet sock save our granddaughter!!!
by Bownoni (5 out of 5 stars)

Thank you Owlet! Your wonderful sock saved our newborn granddaughter! One night while we were still at the hospital we decided to put her new Owlet on just to try it out. In the middle of the night the Owlet alarm went off, she had stopped breathing! She stayed in the NIC unit for eight days while they tried to determine the cause. She is now almost five months old and she still wears her Owlet sock day and night! God Bless you for your wonderful product! Every newborn baby should have one!

I love this product
by Rebeca (4 out of 5 stars)

I love this product! Had a little trouble the first 2 days because of our internet connection, the sock still worked we just couldn't see the babys levels. Once the connection was fixed we haven't had any problems or false alarms. I sleep so much better knowing my child is monitored and will be alarmed if something is wrong. The only thing that need to be adjusted is the rates for what is normal. An oxygen level in the 80's is not normal and 60 is super low for a child's heart rate. I wish I was able to adjust it myself. Hopefully in the future it will be adjusted to the correct normal limits.

Peace of Mind
by Julia (5 out of 5 stars)
November 30, 2018

I went back and fourth for months during my pregnancy as to whether or not I needed this. It's a lot of money, plus I did feel a little ridiculous for wanting to monitor my sons' vitals constantly. Talk about a pia mom! Well, clearly I decided it wa worth it, and I am glad I did! The peace of mind is worth the money for sure, and being over protective of a tiny baby is nothing to be ashamed of in my book. In my experience, the device works well and I have not had any issues with connectivity or sock fit, even though my baby is a constant wiggler. Make sure you watch the videos on how to put the sock on properly. It is not difficult, but it is possible to do it incorrectly, which I suspect led to the issues that some reviewers experienced. If you put the sock on properly, you will not have issues. Some of the reviews also mentioned that they are being asked to pay for the connected care app? I am using the app and have not been prompted to subscribe to anything or for any extra money at all. So maybe that has changed? Anyway, I am happy, and am looking forward to being able to sleep once my son decides to sleep on his own, but that is another issue! My advice is if you are on the fence, buy this! Putting your mind at ease is worth the money.

worth it for peace of mind
by candi (4 out of 5 stars)

peace of mind! i have twins; this is very expensive as is, but buying two is of course double.. that said though, there's no price you can put on peace of mind. Before we started using these, I couldn't sleep.. i was constantly checking the babies to make sure they were still breathing, hadn't rolled over, etc. We did have one scare one night (one of the babies heart rates went up beyond the normal marker) and of course that was a little scary, but at least it woke me up so I could check on them! If you're like me and constantly check (or think you would constantly check) your baby, then this is so worth it just to know that you can sleep easy when this is on your baby.

i've heard some people say that the sock comes off.. that only happens if the size isn't quite right, so make sure you use the correct size and put it on properly.. at first we put a sock on over it to ensure it would stay on better, so you can try that also. we haven't had one come off yet.

what i don't like? you have to log out and log back in with a second account to check your other child.. so it's not compatible for multiples. also, you have to use the Owlet app, but on top of that there's an Owlet Connected Care App, which has a montly fee to use, and all it does is temporarily record the information that the Owlet is collecting so that you can review it. I find it absolutely absurd that after buying a $300 baby monitor sock, that the normal app doesn't already provide this information and that you then have to pay monthly if you want to be able to review the information. I downloaded it and did the trial for a few days and then deleted it.. it's not worth it. If you're getting notifications often, write the down to review with your pediatrician.
