Randomly unlocks at night
by Babs F (1 out of 5 stars)
June 28, 2019

Installed the lock - seemed to work fine.

Except it opens the lock at night - all by itself.

The company sent me an eMail saying I screwed up the installation.

OK - but they didn't tell me how to fix it.

So we had to take the batteries out - and I guess I'll try to figure out how I screwed up the 3-minute installation.

I hate when companies shift the blame from a poorly designed product to the consumer who didn't do something right.

Very scary...can't recommend to anyone

**Read Update** - Great design, premium build, high end features, ONE FATAL FLAW.

**FINAL UPDATE August 2019**

Unfortunately, I've had to send the lock back for a refund. The LCD screen just does not function in the direct sunlight of the summer. I contacted Lockly customer support, and it is a known issue with houses facing east and west. They told me their engineers are working on a sun-shield of some kind, but that may or may not come soon. They offered a full refund and I accepted.

I'm leaving my review at 3 stars, because other than this issue, I think they have a great product. Their customer support is great, and I don't have a sour taste in my mouth for the company at all. It's a bummer the lock didn't work out for me, but I would still recommend Lockly to anyone that could install it somewhere without a lot of direct sunlight.

If anyone is curious, I ended up replacing my Lockly lock with the Schlage Encode. It doesn't have a fingerprint sensor, but it should work better for my situation.

I've also uploaded a photo that shows how the screen looks during the day in the summer.
**UPDATE August 2019**

I needed to add an update to my review because I've found a pretty significant shortcoming with the lock. My house faces West, so my door gets a good amount of direct sunlight. This hasn't been an issue until about the last two months (July and August). I've found that the hot direct sunlight completely disables the LED touchscreen. It doesn't just make it difficult to read in the sunlight, it literally makes the LED numbers fade away, and the screen literally doesn't display anything. I think it's a combination of the direct sunlight and high temperatures, because this didn't happen until the hottest summer months. Once the sun goes down and it starts to cool off outside, the numbers slowly fade back into existence and the screen is usable again. But this happens every day that it is hot and sunny. Luckily we really only use the fingerprint reader to unlock the door, so it isn't a deal breaker, but what if I want to give someone a temporary access code? It just isn't an option if the screen doesn't work.

If your door doesn't get much direct sunlight, this might not be an issue for you, even in high temperatures. But if your house faces east or west, you need to realize that the screen likely won't work in the hot summer months.

I still stand by the things I said in my original review, but this issue is probably going to force me to replace it with a lock with a physical keypad. I really love the fingerprint reader, but I need the keypad to work too.
**Original Review**

I was a little hesitant to go with this lock instead of a Schlage or Kwikset, just because those brands are a little more well known and established, and Lockly is a small startup from San Francisco. But after receiving and installing the Lockly Secure Plus deadbolt, I'm so glad I took the risk on Lockly.

The build quality is absolutely top notch. The exterior hardware is made out of high quality metal, and it feels solid and hefty. It looks and feels smooth and sleek, and definitely seems premium. The interior side is plastic, but it still feels well made and durable.

Installation really isn't too tricky. I read reviews that said it's pretty complicated or some that said they hired a handyman to do it, but honestly, if you just read the installation manual, I think most people can handle it. It took me about 15 minutes and I had no issues.

The lock is easy to program with the app. The app is well designed and simple, and it just works. Very intuitive.

The fingerprint reader is in a good position, and it works quickly and accurately. I love having the fingerprint reader on there, it's incredibly convenient and very secure. I didn't see another smart lock with that feature, other than a Samsung one that was much more expensive and had poor reviews overall. I think Lockly is ahead of the curve on that feature, and we'll start seeing Schlage and other big companies adding that in the next few years.

Overall, I'm really impressed with Lockly as a company, and I'm super excited about my lock. It looks great, functions flawlessly and keeps my home secure. I would highly recommend this lock to anyone looking for advanced features in a well designed lock.

A smart home must have
by R. Hunt (5 out of 5 stars)

I've wanted a biometric deadbolt lock for a long time. When I came across the LOCKLY it was everything I needed. I installed the lock fairly quickly on our door leading into the garage as this is our main entry point into the house. It has absolutely been a game changer. We've register both finger print and pin codes for all family members. The lock reads our finger prints every time. Even if they're cold, slightly dirty or not positioned exactly centered. The pin code option is very cool cause of the random placement of the digits in the four circles. We've left the plastic cover on and have had no problems with the system reading through it. The automatic lock that can be set for various delays is great. We've had the system for about a week now and have used it quite a bit and it has been very responsive and seems to be built to last. I can see adding this to any door you don't want to hassle with pulling out keys. Have already recommended this to my friends. Great addition to our other smart home devices.

Great Customer Service; Lots of Documentation & Video for Installation
by R. Wilson (5 out of 5 stars)

To begin, I ordered the Lockly Fingerprint Smartlock but Amazon mistakenly sent the less expensive version of the lock - which does not have fingerprint capability. I was disappointed but didn't notice the mistake until the lock had been installed. At that point, I decided I would make due without the fingerprint capability - which is too bad, because this is a really nice lock.

It is fairly easy to install and works well. I had no problem installing the iPhone app or programming codes. There was an issue with activating the screen on the lock but I discovered that it was my error. I didn't follow the directions. When I sent Lockly an email to ask for help, they immediately responded. They even followed up with me a few days later to make sure that the lock was functioning properly. Impressive customer service!

I highly recommend this lock.

Quick, convenient and outstanding.

Works perfectly Everytime. Only two issues: it does not know if the door is open or closed so be careful if you hold the door. Also be careful with the screw heads. They could easily strip. This was generally very easy to install and program once I found the device code in the quickstart guide. Very happy.

The wife hated my idea of a smartlock ... Now she brags about it!!!

Product arrived on time, solid built and good quality. We installed it on our main door, you could do it yourself but we always get our smithy to do so just in case, do follow the instructions to the letter during the initial set up!! So far the missus and kids absolutely love the fact they no longer have to worry about keys. All registered fingerprints work like a charm (except mine which doesn't all time). Also worth noting it's a -very- hot season here and so far no hiccup whatsoever with the device the interface with the smartphone was quick the only thing you gotta be careful about is your initial code (better save as note somewhere/ do not forget) a friend down the street got his after seeing ours but forgot his code (big issue). Very pleased with it indeed would definitely recommend!!

For the Price...
by UNKNOWN (3 out of 5 stars)

At this price I have to be bold with my review. They could have used higher quality materials for one ( they say so themselves). As far as I know its not IPX rated, if it is, its not a very good one. The fingerprint reader is honestly not very good. I would say its 3/10ths the quality of any smartphone reader. If your finger is less than perfectly clean it probably wont read, slightly wet? not a chance. Even when it works perfectly, its slow. This version (Deadbolt version) doesn't works as well as the Latch version. The Deadbolt version sometimes doesn't open when the correct code/finger is input, it thinks it has, and becomes stuck closed while I input the correct code/finger until its decides to start working again (everything is properly aligned and not jammed physically; it works usually). When the touchscreen is off/sleep, sometimes it can be slightly less than easy to "wake up" the screen for code entry than other times. That's pretty much the bad as I see it. All that being said, the part I like about it is, I haven't used a key on my house since I installed these locks. also I can go out of town and grant temporary access to only certain parts of my home so my friends can take care of my animals or whatever I need without them having access to snoop through all the rest of my house ( not that they would). When they watch my animals I can see who, and when someone accessed what doors so I know who got fed when. I also like that you can easily hold a 9v battery to the lock to temporarily power it so you can get in without a key even if its dead. I like the app. If they would up the quality or lower the price lockly would be 5 star. As of now I would say if you have $1,200.00 to spend on 4 locks, and are willing to give it a shot, expect a 3 star product.

Everything working fine except finger print reader position. Didn't realize it was located on the right-hand side and it is so Close to the door frame ....the frame has the weather strip, So my finger can't get through and reader can't read a half way through finger .... better have finger print reader on top than on the side.

BEST DEAD BOLT LOCK I HAVE TRIED !
by Colorado Springs (5 out of 5 stars)
May 2, 2019

This deadbolt lock took about 1/2 hour to install (using existing holes in the door). The numbers within each touch button on the keypad change positions automatically so if someone is standing behind you while you key in your pin # they will not be able to see your pin #. The deadbolt automatically locks within a minute or so (make sure your door is fully closed before it locks). Fingerprint entry application works very very very well. You can also turn off the bolt lock at night so that no one can "mess" with the keypad. There are other bells and whistles such as an alternate ability to unlock your deadbolt if the batteries are expired, keyboard lockup if wrong codes are entered 3 times etc. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO DOWNLOAD THE PHONE APPLICATION FOR THIS LOCK TO WORK. It works on its own with the items that come in the box or you can control your lock by phone by downloading the app into your phone. You gotta try this lock -- it's awesome! The only improvement I can see in the future is that the manual key cover would be lockable and require a fingerprint or pin # to unlock the key cover.

Love it. Fingerprint reader is perfect.
by Rachel (5 out of 5 stars)

This is our first smart lock so I didn't know what to expect. We have had it for over a month now and we absolutely love it!

We had a professional locksmith come install ours since we didn't want to mess around with the security of our home. He said it was one of the nicest smart locks he had seen and that the fingerprint reader worked better than any he had installed. He said he wanted to order this lock for his home, even took pictures of the box/model.

We programmed our index finger for the side fingerprint lock for easier access and it works perfectly. If it's raining, or your hand is wet, you will need to thoroughly dry the area and finger, or just use the access code which always works. I also love that there is a key option.

The app works great. Please note only one user can be the administrator to set up and program access.

I saw some were having problems with the lock opening when your phone was in proximity -- We haven't set up the bluetooth to automatically unlock ours, so we don't run into this problem. I also see people saying you need to buy the separate smart hub for $70 - this is also not true. We don't have the smart hub. We just used the app on our phone to code our fingerprints, set access codes, monitor traffic and lock/unlock. It can all be done through the app.

The only thing I wish they would improve is for the lock to sense when the door is ajar and to not try to lock until its closed.
