flexible not best
by Applewhite Minyard (3 out of 5 stars)

I use a lot of reusable bottles during the hot summers in the desert in southern California. I was looking for ice cubes that would fit in the sometimes narrow necks. These silicone trays seemed, at first blush, the ideal solution.

However, after receiving them and trying them, the super flexibility is actually a detriment in this case. Yes, the ice doesn't stick to the trays, but it's so flexible that it makes removing the ice difficult. You have to bend it around each individual cube in order to pry it out. Perhaps if the ice was left out for awhile and partially melted, it would slip out of its own volition.

I went to Bed & Bath and found a harder plastic version of this and it works much better. You can twist the hard plastic a little and bang it on a counter top and all the ice pops out. A few break, but it doesn't matter. It's much more convenient.

Pretty good trays
by cambscpl237 (4 out of 5 stars)

What I like about these trays is they do exactly what they are supposed to do, hold water to make ice. And the ice sticks they make fit perfectly into a normal water bottle, and that is what I wanted.

But, that is where the complements end. Just like the product description says, they are flexible, which makes getting the ice out easy, but it also makes filling them and carrying them to the freezer a pain. I know it isn't that hard, but I have spilled a lot of water on the floor just moving these a short distance, so forget about every getting your kids to refill the ice trays. Also, you can't stack them, so unless you have enough freezer space to lay them out, use something else.

The trays are high quality, and the ice is just the right size, but I think that plain hard plastic ones are better.

Smaller than I expected

These ice cube trays are smaller than I expected. The ice cubes they make really aren't that much bigger than a standard ice cube, but they have more surface area so I don't think they last that much longer. It's also more flexible than other silicone ice cube trays I have tried which means that if you hold this by the edges the water in the molds at either end spill out of it. I would only recommend this ice cube tray if you have a water bottle or some other container that has an opening too small for normal ice cubes.

Great for Water Bottles
by Jamie W (4 out of 5 stars)
January 25, 2014

I bought these so that I could put ice in my narrow mouth water bottle. They work great. Because they are silicone it is really easy to get the ice out of. My only complaint is that the silicone is a little flimsy so it can be tricky to get them from the sink to the freezer. Also, if you are not putting them on a perfectly flat surface in the freezer then they tip and spill. As long as you are careful they work great, and make perfect sized ice.

A Fine Pair of Ice Stick Makers...
by Jason (4 out of 5 stars)
July 12, 2011

The flexible ice trays offered by Progressive International are not bad at all. What we have here is a set of 2 trays made of flexible silicone/rubber. This set contains both pros and cons about owning, however in the end it is a worth while investment.

They trays you get are made of a very flexible silicone/rubber material. It does not have a chemical smell to it, and produces 8 molds a piece (16 sticks in total).

PROS
- set of 2 for a total of 16 sticks.
- flexible material makes for extremely easy removal of the ice sticks(Can easily remove the sticks individually)
- sticks are thick enough to last a while in a bottle of water
- material is durable, thus will last a long time + will not crack after constant use
- MACHINE WASHABLE (top row)

CONS
- Trays are too flexible you could say. Filling them up and transporting to freezer is a recipe for disaster (**A simple solution to this problem is listed below**)
- First few batches of sticks had a "strange taste" about them... a faint taste of plastic. This was even after washing them before use. *Plastic taste was gone by the 3rd use of the tray and has not returned

OVERALL

For the price you get two high quality flexible ice stick trays. The sticks fit perfectly for a large variety of water bottles, and they last for a decent amount in a drink. The plastic after taste was very faint and quickly went away after a few uses. To be safe I would probably discard the initial batch you make with each tray(Better to be safe than sorry). Other than the initial after taste and above average difficulty in moving the tray(once filled with water), the trays perform as advertised. I would give the product 4 stars.
**NOTE: For an easier time making the ice sticks, rather than fill the tray up at the sink and move it to the freeze, bring the water to the freezer!
- Place Ice tray where you want it in the freezer.
- Get a squeeze bottle(like a condiment bottle for ketchup) or simply a cup of water. Just fill the tray up while it rests in the freezer.

This way you avoid having to carry the tray(s) to the freezer and risk the flexible tray from wobbling all over the place.

They do what they're supposed to
by Nocturnal (4 out of 5 stars)

They are smaller then I expected and I was a little worried there wouldn't be enough ice sticks made to keep my water cold all day but I have a great Thermos and I only need one tray of ice per day. The trays came a little bent but I don't care, they hold enough water to make ice sticks, are real easy to wrestle the ice out of them (unlike most ice cube trays). I have no complaints so far except they are not self-supporting so when you try to transport the trays full of water into the freezer, you'll need something flat (like a board or a tray) to carry them on and carefully slide them into a rack in the freezer. I'm using the metal crumb catcher try from a cheapo toaster oven we never used.

They suffice as crayon molds
by Rynne (3 out of 5 stars)
August 25, 2013

I ordered these to use as crayon molds. After checking on their website, I knew they weren't silicone, which is fine with me, though as others have noted, they do have a funny smell. The crayons turned out okay, though it was a little hard to turn them out of the mold. They also left a wax residue that adhered to whatever material the trays are made of, which I haven't been able to fully scour off yet. I'll continue to use them as crayon molds, but I don't think I'd ever order a set to use as ice cube trays.

Total Disappointment!
by Theresa M. Studer (2 out of 5 stars)
December 10, 2014

I got these so that I could have ice cubes for bottles which they work great for but I was disappointed when I filled them up and had to put them on a dish in the freezer because they have not support. Holding the trays they just flop over and it doesn't matter if they are full or empty. I also had a hard time getting the ice cubes out of the trays. Not too happy about them. I took them to the thrift store since I'm not going to use them.

A good idea, but I prefer a bigger ice stick
by Timothy B. Riley (3 out of 5 stars)
December 10, 2011

I really liked the idea of this ice tray; thin, long ice sticks that could be inserted into a water bottle. I like to go on long bicycle rides and where I live (south Texas) it gets really hot. Having cold water helps me to keep my body temperature lower than it would be otherwise. When I saw this item I decided to buy a few sets to use when I bike.

I always use distilled water when I make ice cubes, especially since the water here is very hard. I have never had a problem with any kind of odd taste or residue as some have complained about. They are pretty flimsy, especially when full of water, so I fill them while they are sitting on top of an inverted, regular ice tray.

After using them for a while I decided that if they were longer they would make a nice and unique stirrer for mixed drinks. I found this tray that produced much longer ice sticks. I have now given away my trays like the ones on this page and use the longer ones exclusively.

Wonderful, but still a little big
by w0lfgh0st (4 out of 5 stars)

I love the design and ease of use. The finished cube fits perfect into my large bottles, but if you're planning to use them with regular sized opening plastic water bottles you'll need to fill less than half way.

I use them to add fresh squeezed lemon juice to water, but when using with regular plastic bottles I have to force the cube down and the bottle sheers off the edges. It's a bit messy, but worth it :)
