I apologize for the long review. However, in order for you to understand how this product worked for me- I must share my story. I feel so much better adding this small but secure feature to my apartment door. I usually will not leave a review sharing my personal business however, after what happened to me today I feel the need to post this. In doing so I hope to help anyone who needs feedback in order to purchase this product.

A few weeks ago I was minding my own business inside my third level apartment. I had just gotten home from work so I removed my clothes to place them in the laundry. Before I could place the clothes inside I heard a key turning in my LOCKED door! Before I could react my front door flew open and three guys were standing in my doorway. I yelled for them to get out! One of the guys apologized and stated "He was from the carpet cleaning service my apartment uses on a permanent basis". Two of the guys left quickly however, the first guy was still standing there looking at me. I screamed again for him to get the **** out! He apologized again and left. Of course I called my apartment manager and filed a complaint. Turns out the guys were looking for the empty apartment under mine and were not paying attention to the apt numbers. Still I felt so shaken by this incident. I live alone and I felt like I needed something besides my stun gun to help me feel secure while inside of my home. I just never thought about something like this happening (which was foolish thinking on my part). My apartment door is heavy but it only has that one lock on it. A friend told me about a purchase he made off Amazon for the Addalock and after using this handy device for over two months; I'm sold. It was a bit tricky to get on at first however, after looking over the instructions carefully and reading a few reviews from this web-page I figured it out. Today early this morning I was getting out of the shower and guess what? A key turned in my lock but the door would not budge. I ran to my peep hole and I could see it was the same guy from the carpet service. I told him to back up before I use my weapon and he claimed "He just stopped by to apologize again". I'm in the process now of reporting this to the police. I just wanted to leave my personal experience to help whoever could benefit from this lock. Please keep in mind it only works within the inside of your door you are not able to leave it on if no one is home. I uploaded pictures for you to see my basic set up. Although, it was hard for me to share my story I really appreciate you taking time out to read my review. I hope it was informative.

This worked perfectly... I feel so safe and secure and it is do easy to use. It fit nicely on my door and i just put it on when im inside and take it off when im leaving..lol it really bolts the door..no one will be getting in unless they have the jaws of life lol. Very convenient!!

Stay safe with another type of non-entry device. This does not work. My daughter's ex was able to break right through this lock, and he then proceeded to beat her up. He's not a big man either. See photo below.

I travel to many countries for work and have to stay in hotels. Many people I work with have reported waking up with someone standing in their room in the middle of the night or when they get out of the shower. I bought my Adalock almost a year ago and have been able to use it on every hotel door, except one. I always carry this and a wedge it for hotel door security. It has worked in four countries, including the US. As far as it being difficult to remove, you need to practice with it so that you feel confident that you could remove it in an emergency. I can remove it in the dark in less than two seconds.

I want everyone to know this really works and was the most satisfying purchase I ever made! I was worried about getting what I paid for and if it was going to be durable, but I did and it was!

Here's my story: I had no privacy in my bedroom or bathroom and I HATED it! I could barely sleep soundly without someone busting into my room whenever they wanted. If you notice in my pictures there is what appears to be a standard lock already on my door but for some reason you can just stick anything you want in the slit on the other side and turn and open the door! I was appalled! I enjoyed an enormous amount of satisfaction the 1st time I stuck this contraption on the door and saw the door knob turn and this over 200lb guy (a friend) push and push on this door wondering why he could not get it open!!! It held! It did not budge whatsoever! It doesn't matter if the door is unlocked, if the doorknob is turned it will not open a crack! If you see in my pictures the red part holds the door closed tightly and even if the other person is jiggling the door, once it's in place as shown in my picture it will NOT OPEN. If you are like me and want to keep people from coming into a room you are already in, Iwould definitely recommend this item.

This is a well constructed product that is easy to install. I am an older female who recently traveled alone and used it in two different hotel rooms. The deadbolt in one of the hotel rooms did not seem to fit properly so I was especially glad to have this device to use. Before I purchased it, my concern was if it could be easily removed in case of a fire. The answer is YES. The design is really pretty simple but ingenious. My only question remains if there is a medical emergency and I am alone and unable get to the door, could emergency responders could get into the room? Most likely there would be a way for responders to get into the room although there might be a delay. I decided not to worry about those odds.

I purchased two of these, one for my apartment door and one for travel.

Home: this fits perfectly on my front door. It was tested when the maintenance man at my building showed up earlier than expected. He knocked, and before I could get to the door, he was already trying to open the door AND COULD NOT. This held, and he really pushing. I know someone can get in if they really are determined, but the level of noise they'd cause would alert neighbors and give me time to react. Exactly what I bought it for.

Hotel: I've stayed in one hotel and this did fit. It was loose in the door jamb, but once the door was closed, it didn't budge when I tested it.

Nothing is 100% secure. But this device definitely makes my door more secure then the lock and chain do! I highly recommend for anyone in an apartment and travelers. I practiced taking the lock off to be sure I could do it in a fire. It takes less than 3 seconds to set up and remove. Very happy with purchase.

This lock is nice because I live in an apartment. It won't damage anything and is easy to use. Sometimes the maintenance people come much earlier than expected, which can be a problem if I'm getting ready/showering or napping. This lock prevents them from entering before I'm ready for them to come in.

ORIGINAL "It passed the fit test and everything seemed fine until I couldn't open the door & remove this stupid lock. Do not buy this product because you'll end up here frustrated searching the internet for tricks to remove the lock. My boyfriend had to stay at his parent's house so I'd recommend waiting for everyone to come home before trying it. Also, they don't answer the phone number listed for their company or have suggestions on how to escape. I feel like an idiot because I was bested by a company with typos in the instructions. I'll make sure to update my review if/when I escape with tips"

UPDATED First, my addalock passed the fit test but the problem was my deadbolt latch just slightly poked out of the mechanism and got the addalock caught. I tried multiple ways to get this free but with the advice of the company I took the cover off to get a better chance of releasing the door. In the end, I had to give my landlord the weirdest phone call (she hadnt heard of the product) and maintenance arrived. No damage was done to the product or my door so that is a relief.

Second, If you get stuck, you need to contact the company right away. They gave me a phone number to call and I spoke with a Shai (I think) multiple times until I got the product off the door. I believe he was even driving and had me on speakerphone so it was good to know they were concerned, however, you will have to wait for them to read your emails during business hours for any customer support.

Finally, Before you use the product, I recommend checking these things first. 1. Do the fit test (duh) 2. Inspect the lock and area surrounding it for anything indicating something does not work properly. 3. Make sure you can fit the latch or deadbolt through the product (lock/unlock before closing the door) 4. If you can only exit your home/apartment through one door, please make sure everyone is home first so they aren't locked out (WORST CASE SCENARIO) and make sure it's not too late that you can get help. The seller did not provide adequate instructions for the consumer to test their product before using it.
This product really needs to have clear, detailed instructions and adequate safety warnings. I did eventually remove the product from my door frame, however, an event like a fire could have left me trapped in my apartment and unable to escape. The product has a potential for serious harm. I tried to follow-up with Addalock company for a way to get a refund but my email was ignored. I have no idea why they wouldn't answer me so Amazon issued a full refund but my email was sent after I deleted my negative seller feed back and improved my review from 1-star. The product could work but the safety concerns/seller support leave me not wanting to use this item ever again.

I never write reviews but after receiving this and trying it out, I was so impressed that I had to share. This took all of 1 minute to setup and after pulling hard on the door, the Addalock held firm. We use this on an interior door that doesn't currently have a lock on it. So simple to use and should hopefully prevent us from being surprised in the night by someone breaking in via the basement and sneaking up to the main floor of the house without us knowing.
