YOU'LL HATE YOURSELF...

I feel so stupid for falling for this gimmick! We already have washable, reusable paper towels - they're called WASHCLOTHS!! Go to Walmart and by a 12-pack for 3 bucks - they last forever, and no special treatment! Keep a few next to your sink. I'm ashamed I bought these.

I am such a fan of these bamboo towels. I purchased 6 rolls a year and a half ago (Dec 2014) and just came back and purchased 3 additional rolls to eventually replace the ones that have been permanently damaged from staining, worn from over use or accidentally thrown away. I have so many left from my original order that I haven't even opened the three packs I just purchased, to be honest, I just want them on hand in case more get thrown away. (I try to educate guests quickly, but some loss due to accidentally going into the garbage still happens.)

I read all of the complaints for these towels and tried to address them before I bought them, to great success. As far as storage, I don't have a lot of drawer space in my kitchen, so I purchased a Sterilite just for these that sits on an easy to access shelf and don't really miss the old 'roll' of paper towels now that I'm used to going to the drawer. I also purchased a small office-style mesh trash can and mesh laundry bag to line it just for these towels. When I'm done with one, I simply throw it in the mini-laundry basket and wash when everything is dirty. I wash these on their own (no other laundry) on the 'sanitize' cycle and throw in a cup of bleach, for good measure. I use the 'extra rinse' feature and no fabric softener and they have held up to wash after wash.

As far as durability, these towels are thick enough to wet and reuse several times, and I find that using them sanitize/bleach combination keeps them from developing any stains. I would say that 95% of the towels that I still have are as white as the day that I purchased them, and I use them for everything in the kitchen, so they get very dirty.

I love the idea of this item, and perhaps it's all about mindset. But now that I have them, I don't really see the difference between these and regular old rags, except for the temptation to throw them away. They are super absorbent, so I suppose that's one plus, and they do exactly as the description says: reusable, washable, etc. But because they look so much like paper towels, it's hard to remember not to throw them away. I will use this roll (hopefully for a really long time). However, in future, I think I'll just stick with regular cloth rags, which are also absorbent, reusable, washable, etc. Maybe I'm just missing something?

PROS:

Very absorbent

Versatile use - I mostly use for drying dishes, cleaning counters and handling small messes. I reserved one each for bathroom use and living room. They make great dusting pads in the living room.

They hold up well in the washer the first couple of times. When they start to wear and "fuzz", I just use them for different things (not dishes)

They are soft and don't have a weird texture in the hand - when wet or dry

CONS:

They do start to wear after a couple of washings and once they do, I'm not able to use them for everything.

They easily attract lint and other "catchings" after they have been washed a couple of times.

Once off the roll and used, I have to find a way to store them out of the way - and where they won't catch lint and fuzz. A baggie is the best way.

No matter how clean they are after washing, they aren't very attractive-/sanitary-looking.

One big thing that bothered me is the Rayon issue. I personally don't have a problem with the Rayon itself; I was annoyed that it seems someone went out of the way to hide the Rayon. For people who do care, I think the label should have more prominently displayed the notice about the Rayon.

Extremely versatile, soft, enduring product

I appreciate these towels more than I thought I would!

Pros:
+ reusable
+ sturdy
+ machine washable like other towels
+ softer after each washing
+ great for the kitchen or bathroom for cleaning
+ soft and lint free for electronics
+ perfect for removing makeup and other beauty needs

cons:
- tend to pick up lint from other laundry items when in the wash/dryer
- have a funny shape and tend not to fold uniformly
- can be a mess to store in a linen closet without a bin or container
- not practical to totally replace paper towels with these

Most importantly: they stink fresh out the pack. Most people can probably tolerate it but my pregnant partner stopped using them until they got washed.

The smell goes away after first wash and they come out the dryer extremely soft.

Originally purchased for drying hands in the bathroom (got tired of the wet hand towel smell).

Solid paper towels, very thick, like a blend of heavy duty paper towel + worn microfiber hand towel.
2-3 rolls should take care of a family for a year minimum.

Price is great for frugal ones or those looking to stop throwin money away. Just bought 2more for the kitchen.

Great product that didn't work for me because of pet hair

I love the concept and I did everything I could to make these work for me. The problem for me was pet hair.

I followed the advice of another helpful reviewer and started with a plan for where to store dirty towels and where to store clean ones after they are off the roll. That part of using these sheets was manageable with a system in place. I washed and hang dried the towels through one cycle, and I think all in all they could have worked out great, but after I started using the "clean" ones again I realized that each sheet had at least a couple of visible hairs from my dog. I know that some of the dirty towels that had gone through the washer had dog hair on them, and the hairs transferred and stuck right to the towels.

I'm going to try once more using the dryer this time to see if that helps. I'll update if it does.

Perfect paper towel alternative

These are very nice and I do believe they are just what I was looking for. I typically go food shopping and wash all my greens when I get home. I usually lie the greens on top of paper towels after shaking off excess water. I generally do 2 layers, then roll them into a tube and insert into a "Greenies bag". They last a good week and stay crisp. I was feeling wasteful using disposable towels. Not anymore, because these can be washed. And the best part is I think they work even better. My beet tops and kale have lasted a week and a half.

Environmentally friendly and saves money due to less waste!

I use a shameful amount of paper towels and these make feel so much less wasteful! I mostly use them to cover my cat's food while I microwave it since I don't want it splattering all over the microwave and my cat is extremely picky and will not eat cold food. These work great for that. I have a tiny little bin on my kitchen counter that I put the used ones in and then transfer to the laundry bin when full. I put them in the dryer even though it says not to, they are fine. They turn to more of a felt like texture after being washed and dried but still work great. Also I store the loose clean ones in an empty Kleenex box (long rectangular kind) by folding them the same way tissues are in a box. This is a nice way to dispense them once off the roll.

You Will Probably Love or Hate Them

These are hard to review. If you want what they do, then you will be happy. But, if you are expecting something else, you'll be disappointed. Here's what I mean:

You can't think of these as paper towels. They are tougher, more absorbent, and not meant to be thrown out after one use. So, I wouldn't use these to clean up something really awful like cat vomit, wall paint, axle grease, etc.

But, you also can't think of them as cloth towels or rags. They are not very large and are, therefore, less absorbent overall. And, although they are surprisingly durable, they obviously don't stand up like a cloth towel or rag.

We use these bamboo towels, but still use paper towels when we just don't want to or can't wash out whatever we are cleaning up. We also use cloth towels and rags, where appropriate.

We find that these are great for cleaning up water-based liquids. So, we wipe the counter, cleanup tea spills, dry vegetables after rinsing them ... that sort of thing.

We tend to not use them to clean up oil spatters, peanut butter, etc. This is not because they can't do the job and they wouldn't wash out, but more because of the next point ...

Paper towels are used and thrown away (composted, right?). Cloth towels are hung on the oven door until they need to go into the wash.

But, these bamboo towels don't really work either way. You wouldn't want to throw them away after one use, nor would you really hang them up on your oven door or fridge handle

So, you have to figure out what you will do with used towels to let them dry. You could use them, then throw them in the washing machine, but we tend to use them for several days before the really need to go into the Wash. So, we haven't really figured this out.

Just think about that. But, even so, I think that anyone that uses paper towels should grab a roll of these as an alternative.
