Best present ever! Not the best waffle maker ever...
by Cat (4 out of 5 stars)

Okay, let me start off by saying this. This Death Star waffle maker totally helped me win Christmas last year.

This is the coolest novelty item. Anytime anyone sees it, or a waffle made from it, they freak out. I gave it to my boyfriend as a holiday present, and he was over the moon. I think this is the perfect present for any Star Wars lover. We use it constantly now. We love to try new recipes. We have made regular waffles, chocolate chip waffles, bacon and cheese waffles, trail mix waffles, and even a mac and cheese waffle...not the best idea. It is so fun to use whenever we have guests.

However, I would not buy it if you are expecting a good waffle maker. It just does not live up to the quality of a regular one. The waffles are often overcooked on one side (the bottom), and under-cooked on the other. It really does become a battle of the dark and light side. If you are just looking for a good waffle maker, buy one at Target for less than half the price.

Personally, the flaws are worth it for our favorite kitchen item!

Great waffle iron, and destroying the Death Star over and over again was very filling
by Chris (5 out of 5 stars)

Used it for the first time yesterday, it works great as a waffle iron, the non-stick plates work very well, and of course having Death Star waffles was awesome. Every time we destroyed the Death Star, a new one kept getting constructed, so we just kept having to destroy it over and over again, we were stuffed. It's a bit pricey for a waffle maker, but I imagine that just goes for paying for a licensed Star Wars product instead of regular ole waffles.

Attack of the Death Star "pancake"!!
by txfamily (4 out of 5 stars)

Personally I think this should not be called a waffle maker - more like a pancake impression machine. It took a couple tries for me to get the batter level right - slightly more than 3/4 cup, little less than a full cup - and you do have to spread it around. If you just pile it the middle it does not compress it enough to fully distribute the batter. I also turned it all the way up but you don't get that crispy waffle texture. It's definitely the texture of a big pancake. I did Pam the machine a little bit in between but the non stick performed well. That said - the impression is clear and the kids love it.

Fun product; tasty waffles
by Amazon Customer (5 out of 5 stars)

Product was purchased as used via Amazon Warehouse deals ("used" in this case meant that someone had ripped open the box, decided they didn't want it, and returned it). Product was delivered promptly and arrived in advertised condition. It was given as a birthday gift and we made waffles with it right away. We used a recipe off the Internet, instead of one of the recipes in the instruction booklet, although those recipes look good, too. The waffle maker worked well, and creates nicely detailed Death Star waffles. We found that we needed to experiment with the heat settings and the amount of batter to get the right consistency and ensure the waffles were thoroughly cooked. Once we determined the best setting (we turned it up to the highest setting) and the right amount of batter after the first batch, they turned out perfectly. Please note that this waffle maker will not create waffles with deep grooves and pockets for syrup, as a traditional Belgian-style waffle maker would. The waffles will be closer to a pancake consistency, as a result. However, they tasted great and we had a fun breakfast experience eating "Death Stars". Highly recommended for any Star Wars fan.

That's no moon...that's a waffle maker

Huge fan of Star Wars and waffles so I had to order this.

Product looks cheap and is made predominately of plastic. Despite it's poor appearance, it works very well. I used pancake batter made of oats for the first time out and they turned out yummy. A few points: you must use non stick spray or oil or else the waffles will stick; always cook on the highest setting or they won't brown and will look like play dough; cook way past the time allotted in the recipe book...once warmed up a pancake will be cooked through in 3 minutes although the light will turn off after 60 seconds.

Not very functionable
by LE (1 out of 5 stars)

Bought this for my hubby as a birthday gift.

For whatever reason, this waffle maker will NOT produce fluffy, evenly cooked waffles. We can barely get the imprint of the Death Star on them. He's even tried several different waffle recipes (including upping the amount of baking powder) to no avail.

Really cute little gimmicky gift for any Star Wars fan but in terms of functionality (and considering the price you're paying), you're better off getting a standard waffle iron if you care about eating breakfast.

Total disappointment!
by SallyAnn J. Naumoff (1 out of 5 stars)

I would give minus stars if I could. The waffle is like a wet floppy pancake and if you let it in a bit longer it is burned but somehow still floppy. I was very excited to send this to my father, sister and one for me too but all of us do not like the finished waffle. Because we used the product trying to figure out how to try to make a death star waffle we could not return it. We have other novelty waffle makers and they worked so don't be fooled by this one! Huge waste of money!

Does not cook batter!!
by Mollee (1 out of 5 stars)

Do not buy this!!!

Imagine buying this with dreams of surprising your Star Wars loving boyfriend for Christmas with sweet Death Star love waffles? Then imagine that dream being laser beamed due to the inability for this waffle iron (If you can even call it that) to cook anything. My dream was blown to smitherins and we ended up eating kebab after I mourned the loss of Star Wars love waffles.

Let's put it this way, I've made waffles 100s of times in my life and never once had a hiccup until now... when it took 15 minutes to "cook" and when it was done.. it was this rubbery mess.

Slow cooked waffles

The griddle never really gets hot enough. Each waffle takes almost a half hour to make...but they do certainly come out looking like Death Star's. If you aren't hungry at the time of making them and are just going to freeze the waffles, then it really isn't disappointing. But if there are two of you and you are both hungry at that moment, this thing can make you really aggravated.

I saw that in the reviews before but I like a smaller pocket
by Kellie Elliott (3 out of 5 stars)

Mostly a pancake maker... I saw that in the reviews before but I like a smaller pocket, crispier waffle (vs a belgian) so that sounded not to bad to me. But this just does not get crispy on the outside too well. I have only tried one recipe (my favorite family recipe) so maybe I will just have to try some others. Also it does not make a clear signal when the waffle is done. There are lights but they don't seem to function like the manual says they will? I prefer whistle or tone. I don't normally like to have excess appliances so I wanted this to be my be all end all waffle maker replacement and it is not that. Overall it is a cool novelty and we will get enjoyment out of it.
