Junk.
by JGregory (1 out of 5 stars)

The motion detection ("presence") feature is junk. I installed three of these in the same room. I can walk in to the room and nothing happens. I'll be sitting in the room for 20 minutes, then all of the sudden the lights come on. Also, they don't remember the previous power state... so if you shut off the outlet they are connected to, when power is restored they will default to the Off position.

As far as just a remote wifi-controlled switch, they work fine. However, they are bluetooth ONLY, so no remote access. You ahve to be in the same room as the device for it to work.

Skip this and get the iHome Smart Plug. It's wifi, has a remote control so you don't need your phone all the time, and it remembers what on/off state it was in before the power went out.

Doesn't completely shut off power to connected devices

For starters, you must have location services on in order to use it which I don't quite understand for a bluetooth product. The app works but it is buggy. My biggest problem is that when the smartplug is off, there still seems to be some voltage leakage as the LEDs on my Christmas tree flickers on every 5 seconds (see my video). I had a LED star on top (not shown) and it stays on but at a dimmed state when the connected to the other Zuli plug I had setup. This tells me that the plug is not sensitive enough to block the low current required for LEDs. I did have the settings set to non-dimmable LEDs. This made me investigate its UL Listing insignia on the box because I thought how could this pass UL tests? After searching UL, I got a "Sorry, No Matched Found" result which leads to the concerns with the existence of the company. Either they don't exist, were delisted or it is fraudulent. From all of the other bad reviews, I wonder if this product would even be maintained with all the new app updates. It is a shame as this product and ingenuity had such great potential. I only bought this because my brother owned a few but I should have paid attention to all the bad reviews.

Total scam artists, don't waste your money.

I have 6 if these now defunct plugs. I originally paid over $100 for 3 plugs then a second set of 3 for closer to $60. They're now selling for $9.99!!! They were great at first but the app stopped working and Zuli isn't replying to support requests. Total scam. If you're going to have a product you need to support it with app updates. Now I've wasted a ton of money on something that'll now gather dust. I'm so livid. And yes I've tried everything to fix the app. Uninstall and reinstall, make a new account entirely but all end up with the same issue, I'll get to a point where the button to click for the next step becomes unresponsive and I can't complete setup or in some cases, login at all. Not sure if they're out of business or what but either way they're product is now useless to me.

It is such a shame. The product looks beautiful and is well designed, and the packaging is beautiful, too.

It is one of the very few smart plug on the market that can also DIM- not just switch!

BUT: the company seems to be out of business, only the iPhone app works (but even on the iPad it does not work properly).

Most other apps do not know/ recognize the product/ don't support it. The ZULI app supports Nest and Philips Hue- but not the other way around.

It uses Bluetooth, hence it requires your phone to be around. If you are away you cannot operate them- which really limits the application.

Company Out of Business?

Zuli App does not work. Looks like the company no longer exists. Do not buy these until you can confirm app is up and running otherwise the plugs won't work.

Do not buy !!!!!!!

Just got this. Right off the bat, I could not even create an account. It kept giving an error without a hint as to what needs to be fixed. Changed user name, password, email - nothing happened. Still kept getting an error right on the app during setup. This is going back asap.

By the way, it does not have one piece of paper with instructions as to how to use it. I have to say the packing was elaborate and fancy - much better than the device. Not one line on how to set it up. They really explain the proverb "do not judge a book by its cover".

App is not available anymore (US) -- see recent update, app is available now.
by P. Tiku (4 out of 5 stars)

Bought it despite the bad reviews thinking that we will be able to live with a few flaws. However, did not realize that the app itself is not available anymore. We tried on iOS and Android devices. In the Apple App Store it gives us a message saying this app is not available in your country/region - never really seen this message before. We live in the US. So basically, don't buy this. I've requested Amazon to pull the product or make sure description is edited to reflect that App is no longer available.

Update on 2/9/19

Before returning the product we decided to check in the app store if the app was available again and it was! We are using the plugs and seems to work quite well with the scheduling. The presence feature is unstable and doesn't work well. So far so good.

Not WiFi, but Bluetooth.

Not connected by WiFi. Since I cannot connect through Wi-Fi at work, they are perfect for my office. They allow me to dim or make brighter as needed. They are connected by Bluetooth. You can set your presence so that the light goes on when you approach it. You determine when it goes on based on the 30 feet or so required for the Bluetooth to work. Mine work great, and I have six of them.

Easy Install and works as expected

I was able to install these within minutes. Download the app and simply follow the instructions. These are not alexa enabled which is the only thing I regret, but they suffice my needs for christmas lights, setting a schedule, and controlling remotely. I also wish you could set multiple schedules, but you can only set one schedule per device. Some people mentioned they couldn't plug items into the second socket, but I have not experienced that issue. I am able to use the second socket to plug in other items. Overall, highly recommend for the price.

Definitely a bang for your buck.

I would personally recommend this. I use it for my hallway fan. It's perfect if you want to turn on something without moving from your current position. Or, if you want to turn on a panini press, for example, or something that can be preheated, you can do that from your phone while watching tv or setting up whatever is to be cooked. Anyways, I've had much use out of it.
